Default My Black EJ1 Build Thread

so, i made a thread when i first got the car, **** failed.

heres what ive got so far...

what i started with, got it for 1400 with 138k it was pretty riced out...

soon after i got these!

after like a month of driving it the z6 that smoked above 3k let go on 95... the coolant bypass hose let go + no temp guage= cooked lol. i got it towed to work, and that weekend pulled the motor out in my driveway.

so i needed a motor, my buddy had a y7 shortblock that was in pieces in a box in his garage. he wanted 40 bucks for it all so i got it.

i cleaned the block, bought a ball hone and my dad helped me hone it.

then i got laid off, luckily i got a break and got hooked up at a sweet job, less pay, but im learning alot more which is awesome.

so i then got the car towed to the new job, and brought my block in.

i got an ebay rebuild kit, a rebuilt y7 head off ebay, oem headgasket, arp rod bolts, and head studs.

here it is when it was on the engine stand at work

im a mechanics helper, and the guy i work with is awesome. he stayed late and helped me put the bottom end together, and just checked it over after i finished parts of it.

we stayed late for like a week, got the motor finished, and got it dropped in my car

heres my fresh setup( i spent like 3 hours cleaning and waxing my bay)

so since i got it running in august, ive put about 7k on it, and its the quietest running honda motor i have ever heard! nobody at meets can tell its running, its awesome!

so heres a shot from the chevron meet thursday nights ( this is like 3 weeks ago)

and then these are from today at work after i washed it

so thats where im at since may

its funny how people spend the money on a body kit instead of a decent set of springs or coil overs lol. Looks good though ill give you that and good work on the engine. You shoulda taken pictures of the engine build during the process. you got any other plans for it?

I also had a Black EJ1 with the EG6 TCS/Door cluster. But, I swapped up to B16, not down to Y7. Come to think of it, my front bumper was flat black as well.

Take care of those fenders, and get some wheels..ANY wheels. The ones you had were better than steelies, unless you got a good *** deal for them.

Civic EX's all the way. **** roll up windows!

i traded the motegis with 4 worn out tires, for a fresh set of si's with 4 bad tires. i got 4 new bfg's sitting at work for them.

and i paid 60 bucks for the steelies, sanded them and had them painted at work for free. and ordered 4 of these 35$ tires for them. there just for winter.

lol, yeah it is. its sitting on kyb 4 way adjustables with eibach drop springs. coilovers in the future. my hands were too oily to use a camera when building my motor hahaha. and other plans include coilovers, all motor b series( havent picked which one yet), si wheels in the spring.

and in the spring im taking on the bodywork, im going to do my best to get it straight. and then im going to have it painted at work. i want gloss black with lots of clear. then all new molding and trim

what else should i do? hah

so, i was thinking today, would it look alright if i just had the bumpers, fenders, and hood(when i get it) painted to match the rest of the car.

i really want to take care of the body work, but from what i keep hearing, if i mess with the already hurt quarter panel, theres a chance it will be very weak, and the repair would fail in a short time... true or false?

ill get a better pic of the damage up later.

but, a quick little update is that i got the pwjdm fenders on(sidemarker) and all wired up.
also got the stock tailights from the previous owner and when i did, i found out that the lights i thought of as rice, are actually old school tyc fast and the furious lights. so im debating if i should restore them and rock them.

also got an exhaust tip to cover my rusted si exhaust hahah. it looks like a spoon n1 lol.

i NEED stock headlights so i can tuck the headlight harnesses and do some cleanup on the engine bay.

also i need a stock hood, i need to dish out the 100 bucks for a brand new one

ill get pics up after i get all this **** i need. next time you see it hopefully ill have s2 lca's, asr brace, stock tails, new hood, stock headlights, headlight tuck, and clean *** SI's

body work in the spring, paint by summer.

i also want some lca's, a subframe brace, i want to replace all the bushings on the car with the ones from the ES kit, and i want to get some coilovers eventually.
