Default My 91 CRX Ground up restoration.

My build started in the EF section of Honda-tech, and i decided to move it to here cause well this is the build section. https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-crx-ef-civic-1988-1991-3/build-thread-2602888/ thats the original link to the beginning steps, im just gonna start this thread from where im at now.

Story: Bought this car as a project, tore it apart and rebuilding it from the ground up. The plan as of now is to get it done so that it will be driveable for the summer. So far i've replaced both quarters, both rockers, and have a brand new front end sitting in my basement that i purchased. The overall goal for this is Full restoration, full suspension, wire/brake line tuck, Somewhat shaved bay, and a mild built b18c1.

Where im at right now: well if your just tuning in for this i said that i wanted to have the shell painted by the end of the month so ive been hauling a$$ to get it in the booth. Drivers side quarter is just about ready to be primed, passenger quarter is almost ready to be primed. Drivers side rocker needs to be sanded and prepped, passenger side rocker needs to be sanded and prepped. Seat area has been sprayed with undercoating to prevent rust and to deaden cabin noise/vibration. Rear cargo area needs to be mildly prepped. Roof needs to be sanded.

Its a decent amount but i think with a solid few days i can get it banged out. we"ll see....

Looking very good!! I am currently Bringing a Crx back from the dead... I know what you mean about the whole condition of a east coast car Vs a west coast car. I brought my Spanky clean rust free no oxidation Integra from Cali when I moved back to Long Island NY for 1 year. I parked it in the garage and just moved it on occasion to access things in my parents garage and to keep it running. Long and behold that late spring I pulled it out to give it a tune up and drive it back to Sunny San Diego and GOOD GOD! I was amazed at the oxidation and surface rust on exhaust bolts, studs, screws, rotors, and the undercarriage looked like someone had sprayed it with a thin film of white primer from the salt deposits of just moving the car a few feet in the snow.... Now I bought a Rex out here a few months ago and it needs work but for 200 bucks I cant complain I even have it running.. Lots of work needed but I don't have your body shopping skillz. Keep updating I'm in for the long haul! BTW wea did you get the fenders I need new ones? I remember On Long Island almost any shop back in the day could get the Taiwan made fenders new for about 30-65 bucks..

Man i wish i could have bought a car from cali and had it shipped here, would have been amazing, i paid 400 and change for mine and i still feel like i got robbed lol. It wasnt even running! and i feel ya on the whole oxidation thing, even if the car never touches the snow its just the crappy new york climate. Thanks for the support too my friend . And the fenders i had to get aftermarket cause right now i'm trying to budget myself and the JDM front is a bit on the expensive side. I believe my whole front end (hood, bumper, and fenders) all came out to around $230-$250, somewhere in that region. Not bad at all. Its not genuine honda for now but i just want to get the car looking good then maybe get the jdm front in the future.

Also little update, shell should be in primer tomorrow if everything goes smoothly. Pictures will come within the week.

Heres a little teaser shot, i keep forgetting my camera, gonna go take some pics tonight.
Its not white, its just primer and a cell phone shot. Going in for paint probably saturday (next week) still cant decide on a color. Trying to decide between Red, (dark)forest green, jade green met, or a bright blue. Opinions HIGHLY appreciated.

Painted the rear section today, went with a red we had around the shop left over, single stage of course just for the inside where it gets covered anyway. I believe its called Chili pepper red. Its a very orange-red and im not 100% on how i feel about it yet, its very orange in the pictures but in person it looks like a totally different color. I might go a little darker on the outside but idk haha. Pictures...

This ones probably the closest it looks to in person

Jimbo and kev working on the s2k haha

Thankfully this part of the "fun" is over haha. Trying to finalize a color is giving me a headache. You're lucky your car is black lol.
