Post 1994 EJ Coupe Build Thread

Hey guys! Here is my red coupe with an ls vtec built by Altech that I bought complete for $1700 in Toronto while I was visiting a friend. It was more like $2000 after import costs and maintenance. I drove it all the way back to the Seattle area and I have put lots of love into it since.

According to the last owner the car was dyno tuned at 220whp (no sheets to prove), and I don't doubt that he may have had those parts on there, but it had a stock b16 intake manifold when I got it, so I'm thinking the previous owner was BSing me. I'm planning on getting it dyno tuned again after I get like one more modification done (injectors?). Then I will know for sure. Can I complain for the price though?

The full list of parts/specs (The ones I have done I put new next to):
STR adjustable cam gears-zeroed because of ******* mechanic
Chipped PO6 ECU
Unconfirmed 12:1 compression...it loves 94. Okay on 92. Pings/misses on 89. Definitely high compression.
Tokico shocks/struts-green springs
New PLM RMF style header
New Gates timing belt
New 10 year old Skunk2 "floor model" intake manifold (65mm opening)
New Napa Battery
AEM fuel rail
New AEM air filter
Some kind of incredibly loud high flow muffler
High flow cat-blew into chunks when I flooded the engine a from driving on a busted ignition coil. Definitely needs replacement.
New ignition coil :D
A-pillar with AF ration, Boost meter, and Oil pressure guage.
GReddy Turbo timer.
Rear disk swap with new calipers, pads, and rotors.
Hercules and Goodyear winter tires 185/65/15 (taken off for summer)
GSR fat fives 4x100 (taken off for summer)
Used Enkei EV5 Hyperblack 17 inch rims-$200 total on craigslist
New 215/45/17 Michelin Super Sport summer tires
New Skunk2 Alpha 66mm throttle body (in progress)
New 8000k Kensun HIDs with SPEC-D aftermarket headlamp box. Jerry rigged wiring...need to figure it out.

Things I'm currently planning on doing:
Finding out the entire build of my car (contacted Altech, so in progress...no reply yet)
Skunk2 Alpha throttle body (in progress)
IACV Delete w/ block off plate (in progress)
OEM RDX injectors with Xenochron OBD1 adaptors
Oil type change from 10w30 to 20w50 (castrol now, but thinking RP or diesel?)
Subframe rust sand/treat/repaint
Professional tune
Summer/track tires (finished)
Subframe Brace-ASR/Beaks?
Rear LCAs

To be honest, I'm not sure what kind I have because I didn't do my swap. I'm just building it from what it was when I bought it. If I were you, I would probably try to find a b series t bracket from a 94+ integra or del sol (b16) vtec.

D-series rear bracket will not work.

In your last pic, is that of the "supposed" B16a intake manifold? That doesn't look like a B16 manifold.....

Also, why does this car have a boost gauge? My guess is that it was turbo'd at some point? Makes it harder to believe that compression ratio. Perhaps the compression was done at some other point, but then why leave the boost gauge?

This is true. Like said above you need to get a Bseries T bracket for it to work.

It's not a b16 intake manifold, it's a 1st gen skunk2 intake manifold. The 1st gen ones didn't have a plaque nor any markings.

Right you are, sir! That picture was after I swapped it on because I switched to an itr style iacv. I picked up the s2 intake manifold from a shop that had it on its showroom floor for like 10 years. Good eye!

I've left the boost guage on because I like using the vacuum gauge part of it to try and keep my fuel economy in check. It definitely helps to keep track of how far down the pedal is. I'm really bad at not popping vtec every day when I get to the on-ramp of my local freeway. Plus it was free, so I can't really complain.
As for your suspicions of it having been turbo'd, I'm thinking you're right. It has a GReddy turbo timer too, but that's hidden. I'm thinking either the high compression was done later or the turbo was put on after, and then the owner realized high compression+turbo=no go. Some day I will pull the head off and check the pistons, but that day is a long way off...hopefully. In the mean time I'll keep my focus elsewhere.

New skunk 2 throttle body, yet to be installed.

Old intake manifold. Probably will throw it on the marketplace soon.
