Default knock sensor code...

hey guys i was racing a kid and my motor was reved really high because i was shifting to fourth in a jdm 1st gen b16 adn it acted like it missed and then like slipped into gear but the revs were buried and i wasn't on the gas.. but yes after that the check engine light went on and i checked the code and it was a 23 which i believe is the knock sensor, my question is what could be wrong with it, is my motor damaged at all, where exactly is the knock seonsor on the motor. thanks guys

the KS is located on the back of the block, on top near #2 cylinder.
underneath the IM assembly so it may be hard to get to from up top.

is the CEL for code 23 still on after you shut the car off and restart it?
if so, how long does it take to come on after you restart the car?

it should be in the ECU memory but shouldn't come back on unless there is something faulty with the wiring, sensor or ECU. or maybe if there is a constant vibration/knocking from over reving that is now causing the KS to activate all the time.

i didn't mean that the KS code is coming on due to knocking or piston slap for sure.

there could be something else that's wrong, maybe a connection that's loose?
maybe the plug came off of the sensor itself?

if you can give the engine bay a quick look over and liston for any unordinary sounds from the motor, you may notice what is causing the CEL to come on.

the KS code comes on after driving the car for awhile, it normally does not come on right away like most codes do when the sensor is shot or unplugged. it takes a few minutes, maybe longer in some cases.

look for the simple stuff first, then move on to the rest.
if for some reason there is vibration, knocking or slapping in the block causing the KS to activate, then internal work will be needed. but i can't really say until you take a good look at everything under the hood.
