cam choice question.
OK. im having my b20 vtec bottom being built by marc from golden eagle or bisimoto. it pretty much gonna be the same from who ever i go. just diff in price. the bottom consist of golden eagle ductile sleeves, flywheel, crank, rods and pistons balanced. As for the head i have a 99 b16 head done by portflow. skunk2 IM, skunk2 TB, toda cam gears, but the problem i am having is. i keep hearing that the motor shouldnt be rev'd higher than 8500. so i was told to get arp everything. i already knew this so i did. bisi told me i could rev to maybe 9200 and set the limiter at 9500. but he said that all depended on where my motor stop making power. i dont want to by a bunch of different pairs of cams so which cams would benefit me the most from about 4300 to 9000? also which valve train could hold those arpm's without float. i heard the jun 3's are good but with what valvetrain. i dont want skunk2's vtrain heard its not good. thanks in advance.
I was thinkin about the skunk2 pro 2's but I just notice a lot of people have them. I'm not like everyone else and don't want to ride the ban wagon. Plus I've heard the skunk2 VT is not all that good.
How much does their VT normally run? I need to know so I can hurry up and send my head in. Or could anyone guide me to a site where I can purchase them
if you dont want to ride on the band wagon, then get rm's, but u shouldn't make your choice simply because you dont want to ride the ban wagon

what i mean by ban wagon is. everyone buying these cams just becuz of word of mouth and not by actually seein them or using them. there is a lot of that stuff goin on IN these threads. im not say no one doesnt no anything but just by sayin they're good im not gonna get them. but i am open if someone has some experience with them and can describe the feel.
I have a customer using M24xx's making 240+ whp/ 150+ torque using a "smaller" motor than what you are building. He's on pump gas, blowing through a CAT and 2.5" exhaust.
I think it's funny how the OP doesn't want to "ride the bandwagon" and yet he's doing just that when he says that he "hears" Skunk valvetrain isn't any good. Then Clean Rice mentions RM cams and valvetrain which most of us know are also very good but not as well known and he completely ignores that post because I'll bet that he himself isn't familiar with the RM product. He Skips right on to the next post though where someone is using S2 pro2 cams BUT Supertech springs, which he asks about because I'm sure he's "heard" of them before.
OP, you need to understand something... A bandwagon does mean following people blindly and not making informed decisions. It is up to YOU to inform yourself by researching, not asking questions. Sometimes people use a certain part, not because they are riding a bandwagon but because they are proven. If you want to go off the beaten track to be a little different, good for you but you have to be willing to look into parts you may not be familiar with and that'll take effort on your part.

its funny u say i think i dont know becuz i say i "heard" of them before. it a lot of he say she say. people do it all the time. go to a web site and repeat what someoine else has said or gone through. but i all reality i have seen plenty of dyno's and and spoken to a couple of builders. they all say skunk2 is decent but with what i want to accomplish i may have trouble later. the builders i speak of is mark from GE, bisi, and steve the omni man. the all say its good but from their experience to just steeer clear. what i want is to find some good cam and a reliable VT that can handle mid to hig rpm's without float.
so from now on dont focus on the ban wagon part of the post but on the topic. what cams and VT go good togetherand make good power from 4300 to 9000. thanks

I can think of a reason or two why the engine builder(s) you mentioned may be biased against Skunks valvetrain but I'd be willing to bet they didn't say exactly what you are repeating here.
I don't own a B20 and I don't ride any bandwagons but I still know what cams I'd seriously look at (and valvetrain) if I was building one like you. I did it through my own research which is what you need to do. There's seriously enough info in the FAQ's at the top of this page and on the first page of this forum for you to make an educated decision. Anything else you want to learn can be found with a simple search. Here's a bone to throw you:
want something proven that works and is well known? look at Skunk. Want something a little off the beaten path that has also worked quite well but is less well known? try Rocket Motorsport cams. Good places to start.

These are internal combustion engines, not sports teams. There's no such things as bandwagons.
"i know im not asposed to go outside the lines, but I do anyway, cuz I like to be myself"

been waitin to what u could do for me combustion. i know its not any ban wagon when it come to parts what i mean is all the people saying they use them becuz a friend has them and not from any proof of performance.
i never said teh cams were iffy i was talking about the VT. i heard withe the BC III and IV's those are the cams im most interested in i might have valve float. jsut sayin what i was told the VT can handle.
Ok this weekend I bought the pro 2's after being convinced and show a couple more dyno's on different setups(turbo and N/A). Just need VT before I send my head in.
