Default Battery Drain

Hi all,

I've just been stuck with a current battery issue that i've had. I've recently replaced the battery to a brand new 490cca one and I've constantly been checking the battery charge (with a car battery tester) and even after the battery change, it is still draining. Overnight, the car drops around 20% so I've tested if there is a parasitic drain and testing the amps, only 0.04/0.05 amps are being used when the engine is off. With the engine on and idling, the battery draws 14.1v and the voltage when the engine is off varies as per the charge (12.4-12.6~). Any thoughts on what the issue could be that's draining the battery.

I should also add that the car is a 2006 TSX.

TIA

Sounds like it could be an issue with the hands free link (bluetooth) module that is causing the draw. It is located by the passenger side kick panel.

Australian domestic market? I believe it was standard on all TSXs in '06. There would be a button for this feature located on the steering wheel.

Do you have an aftermarket alarm installed?

I double checked the USDM version and there are no buttons on my steering wheel that correlate with any of the bluetooth functions

Aftermarket stereo gear? Anything added that is not stock? 0.04amps sounds about correct.

Are you removing a battery terminal and putting an amp meter inline?

I've got an aftermarket stereo but I've unplugged it and monitored the battery charge and current (it does drop the current to about 20-30 millliamps). I am removing the battery terminal and putting the multimeter in series to check the current.
I think I've found out that the battery actually drops to 12.45V and doesn't go any lower. Any thoughts on what the reason for this could be?

Maybe your remote wire is still getting power, even when the car is off.

I think the BT is standard on 06+ Correct me if I'm wrong.

Had a similar issue, myself on my 08 TSX. If the car sat 12+ hrs, it would struggle to start. This started out as an intermittent issue. A couple of weeks ago, it sat for ~3 days, and the driver's display wouldn't even come on. Battery was DEAD. Battery was new. Had it charged/tested at O'Reilly's. They said it was drained to 5%. They charged it for a few hrs and tested it. Came back good.

I'd read about this issue, so figured I'd see if I could track down the BT module. Pulled the Pass side kickpanel and just pulled the green plug from the module behind it.

No more issues starting the car.

Yeah it was introduced in 2006 for the TSX. Good to see you have the issue dealt with.

You think after all these years Acura would've come up with some kind of remedy for this.

So you just disconnected it? I'm guessing you aren't using the bluetooth? My 2012 TSX is having ongoing battery problems. Autozone is telling me that the battery is fine but that honda batteries are such that I have to drive the car daily to keep it charged. That seems utterly ridiculous to me. I love the car but feel like it owns me. Driving much more than I want or need to just to keep it charged. Asked them about a trickle charger and they said you cannot hook those up to honda batteries either. I'm very frustrated.

I had battery cranking problems with my 2012 TSX Wagon. The Acura dealer could not find any discharge leakage. I don't use Bluetooth, by the way. I had AAA come out and install one of their new batteries about 18 months ago, and it still cranks better than the Acura OEM battery cranked when new. So, a non-OEM replacement battery may be the solution for you.
