Sometimes long (really long) crank time, 2005 Acura TL
2005 Acura TL
Body: SD
Mileage: 193,000 granny-like freeway miles
Vin: 19UUA66255A049417
Problem: Long crank time, no other problems.
My 2005 Acura TL has always been hard cranking, maybe like 3-4 cranks then vroom. A really nice battery killer so thanks Honda, however like many other people I have always dealt with it. But recently it occasionally takes a really long time to crank, like 10 sometimes 20 cranks. It hasn't failed to start yet, but it does this randomly (cold,hot,warm...etc) about every other day, and I start it maybe 4 times a day. It seems to be getting worse over time. Its little long crank episode seems to add a couple cranks each month. The other day it took about 20 cranks, then started, but made a slow rumble almost like it was going to stall. So I think its only a matter of time before either my battery dies from this, or this problem becomes worse.
The dealership can't find the problem, but the great news is that they keep taking my money YAY!
The "fuel pump relay" was replaced in 2007 by recall (so they told me). So I don't think that is the problem.
The battery was replaced, so that is not the problem.
A freekin blue tooth module in the steering problem was replaced by the dealership to address this issue, nope didn't work.
Its current on its maintenance and tune-ups.
I did some research on the internet and seen a few possible fixes. But I wanted to run it by the world first.
The fuel pump. Thots? How much might that cost? Is it worth trying this?
The "fuel pump regulator". What is this, is it the same as the fuel pump relay? If not, how much and is it worth replacing?
The oxygen sensor. Thots? About how much and is it worth replacing?
Is there anything else it can be?

Re: Sometimes long (really long) crank time, 2005 Acura TL
Service Bulletin 05-013
Safety Recall: Fuse Box May Cause a No-Start or Stalling Condition
A loose terminal in the under-dash fuse/relay box may cause the fuel pump to lose power. If the fuel pump becomes inoperative, the engine may not start. In the worst case, if the fuel pump loses power while driving, the engine could stall without warning, and a crash could occur.
Applies To: 2005 TL – From VIN 19UUA65..5A012670 thru 19UUA65..5A013543 From VIN 19UUA66..5A012008 thru 19UUA66..5A015591

*** bump ***
Thanks for the bulletin, that part was already replaced.
So I may just have the fuel pump, fuel pump regulator, and oxygen sensor replaced. But I need to know if these are all different parts, or part of the same part...etc.
Can someone please advise?

Re: Sometimes long (really long) crank time, 2005 Acura TL
So, You said that the "Driver Side Fuse Box assembly have been replaced?" I am talking about the Fuse Box. Not the fuel Pump relay. The bulletin that shows up on your VIN status only has the Service Bulletin 07-017. There is another Service Bulletin 05-013 which calls for the replacement of the "Fuse Box Assembly. If the fuse box have been replaced then disregard this post. I apologize for wasting your time.

Re: Sometimes long (really long) crank time, 2005 Acura TL
Sorry to revive (my) old thread, but its relevant. So I never did get the hard start resolved, and now it has developed a rough idle and the check engine light is on. It also shudders once in a while, like when driving down the street the car looses a tiny bit of power off and on for a couple seconds but not enough to stall or even slow down. I am taking it to the shop tomorrow to get looked at.
kouajones posted my VIN info above...
Question:
1. Is the recall information above fixes already performed on the vehicle or is that just general recall information? I may ask the mechanic to verify that the relay was replaced. And also check the fuse box.
2. what else do you guys think this could be? I am worried about getting more stuff fixed which I don't need only to have the same problems (again).
