Which year Type R is the fastest?
Hi, I'm new to this forum and I'm looking for a used Type R.
Just wondering which year has the fastest Type R?
I remember I've read '00 Type R can run 14.3 1/4 stock in Motortrend?

Just look for the best deal on the ITR. There really is no "fast" year. There might be minor differences in the 97-99 ECU vs the 00-01 ECU, but not enough to warrant searching for just a 97-99 or just a 00-01. I would try to get a 97 if I were you. I don't like rear wipers and could live without A/C. Good luck!

I've looked for an ITR for a while. I've always "heard" that the 00+ runs stronger/faster than the 97-98. I also "heard" that for whatever reason (no supporting evidence was given) that the B18C5 in the 97-98s are "weaker" or "won't stand up as well to the high revs" as the 00+. This is all rumour and speculation, but can some (dis)prove or provide some evidence for/against this?
Also, I've noticed that the 97-98s are going for $19K+ while the 00+ can be had for as low at $22K. For that price difference, I'd rather have a new(er) one!

I would just decide which color you like best. But to answer your question 2000, and 2001 are suppose to be a tad faster than 1997 and 1998. I don't think you'ld feel any difference though. I wanted a new one, but if I were going to get one now, I'd get a white 97 or 98.
newer doesn't mean better, OBDII version 2 is harder to re-chip.
There is no evidence of new ITR is faster than older ITR.
For every shipment of ITR, some of them are faster than some of the
others because these engine are hand polished, there will be some
discrepencies, whether you can get a faster one your not, it depends
on your luck. I would say they go from 155whp to 165whp.
Also, a slower ITR doesn't mean it will be slower at all time, some
of them may respond better on certain mods than the others.
For example, puting an AEM can give you +3 to +8 whp depending
on your car.
So, there is no faster ITR in a particular year, just find one according
to you budget. more money -> lower mileage, less money -> higher
mileage.

Like they all said: there is really NO fast year!!!
They Are ALL highly tuned machines for their year and ECU.
I personally have had 2 01 R's and have felt that my second R is quicker/stronger than my first. I broke them in identically and have driven them the same. My second one however seems to have a difficult time downshifting into first "even after double clutching and/or rev-matching." Oh and I know there is a block out for the 1st gear, but it just feels different! Of course It IS quicker, "and Hell I am modding this one, the other was stock!"
Good luck,
A.
PS all that you have to worry about is abuse, try to get an older owner "Geez what am I sayin that could be the kiss of death too!" OK, someone who didn't beat the snot out of the car like most of us...

Actually, Mr. Ichishima of Spoon Sports noted in his catalog video that the build quality of the Civics and Integras have been getting better over the years. The parts are getting more closely balanced, the fuel injectors have a better spray pattern and are more consistent, the cylinder head porting is better, and so on. Don't know if that applies to the U.S. engines, but I would think so, since they are made at the same factories.
As an example, he was noting the difference in the rear upper control arm between the 98spec R and the 96 spec R Integra models. The 98 model has a solid rod where the 96 is a stamped steel piece.
So maybe there is nothing dramatically different, but maybe there are some minor running production changes and improvements that we don't know about.

Ludikris....i have a 98 and mine sure as hell can hold her RPMS and performs very good. Performs the same as my buddy's 01' R. I acually edge him out when we street race.
I think it depends on the vintage of the driver more than anything.

I have heard that the yellow 2001 Rs are slower! :-0
jmb
PS - for those who don't get it, saying that a yellow 01 R is slower is about as logical as saying that the 98 CW ones are slower!
perhaps your second R was quicker because it was black.

We get a lot of chicks looking at us, WE as the driver tends to slow down and pay more attention to them..(picking the one to sit on passenger side and eventually stop and park for some fun..
).The Black Rs keeps on going like a bat mobile looking for his foe..

-learn how to drive it!!!!!!!!!!
-take care of it!!!!!!!!!!!
-and don't ask another one of these question!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! b/c as you can see, you're more unsure to which is faster than before you created this thread.
No hard feelings. Do take your time finding the right one. The newer ITR's are different in certain unnoticeable ways.
Good hunting

Isnt that only for the JDM R??
Isnt that only for the JDM R??
yes, only the 98+ JDM R's . . . all of the USDM models have the stamped steel piece. mike@ipsracing sells the 98+ JDM R ones.
I've owned 2 ITR's and 2 B18C5 powered Civics. And in my opinion the USDM '97 vintage electronics and motor are top notch! Lets forget road test results for a second. I had a 2600lb Civic EX coupe (same weight as ITR) with a full '97 ITR swap. OBD II harness, motor & tranny, 5 lug susp, interior, etc. And with only a DC DAC, hollow cat, and HKS mini drager muff. The car ran 14.1 @ 98 mph on RE010's, all day long, consistently without a stutter. With approximately 15k miles on the motor. I have yet to see an ITR of any year run that fast with so few mods and on street radials.
After selling that car, I got a 98 ITR which eventually ran 14.3 @ 97
(with an AEM, Mugen header, HKS exhaust, and, H&R race springs)
sold it @ 33k miles and it ran beautifully. I wont even get into a B18C5 powered '91 SI I had (headaches).
My current ITR felt the slowest when stock, but so far has netted me the best times also? Go figure? 13.77 @ 99 on 10/10/00.
(JUN 4-2-1, random cat, Apexi WS cat back, MSD wires, AEM CAI, Nitto drag radials, +2 degrees timing, 100 octane CAM2, seats & spare removed)
*note: Car currently has 5 Zigen Fireball cat-back, AEM CAI, & MSD wires.
JUN header/random cat/APEXi WS have been sold.
Best run of 2001 season 14.36 @ 96.9 mph on street tires.

I didn't like it. Which is why I sold it, too quiet, no noticable improvement over stock, and I wasn't crazy about the outdated look it has to it.
5 Zigen Fireball, I like!

You're going to end up doin modifications to it anyway so who cares what year you get? Whatever year you decide to get, I'm sure it won't be stock for long.
Hpimp, not to flame but my car went 14.07@100.5 with just homemade CAI,usdm Mugen 4-1 and timing set at 18 degrees. So qith $535 in mods I went 14.0's.It can be done much easier than most think.
Oh I was on 195 50 15 sp8000's
