VTEC launch - when?
Hi,
Im thinking about when vtec should launch on mods like in ITR:
skunk2 stage2 cams
about 12.0:1 CR
ported & polished head
injectors 310 cc
spoon flywheel
custom intake
full exhaust (SS,Spoon), Toda header
+ AEM EMS or Hondata.
of course Ill choose best point when the car will be tuned on dyno but any suggestions?

skunk2's usually like an engagment anywhere from 5200-6100 from dyno's we've taken...depending on the build.
just take it to the dyno.....and run it with vtec set at like 9900 or disengaged...and then make a run wiht it set as low as you can....and see where the lines cross..and there's your point. the smoother the engagment the better.

What? I know this was a joke but what the hell does it mean. Is this like find the equilibrium or something?

hes talking about the lines of using common sense to figure out the best vtec engagement point -- I think ~ not for sure
but a proven method is disengaging VTEC and running it on the dyno, then find you peak hp/power and use that point minus 200 rpms to suit where your vtecH should KICK in (sorry had to do that)

Hey Reid,
One thing I always wondered about this, is when setting it at 1000, should you do a couple different runs and change fuel settings for each run to try to get the most out of it while set at 1000? and do the same thing when setting it at 8000? Then set the xover point and tune the map from there? I guess theres probably different methods of going about it...
