VTEC is hesitating/sputtering
For the last two days I've noticed that when my cams engage VTEC, there is a very noticable lag, I can hear and feel it change over, then it dies down, then picks up, then dies down. Pretty much all the way through the RPM range. First thing I obviously did was check my oil, which I'm almost due for a change, but does not seem to be the culprit. Then I set my VAFC to display VTi and VTo, both show ON during the whole process, neither go to OFF when I feel the hesitation. I'm really confused as to what the culprit could be and don't know what else to look for. I tuned my fuel curve appropriately on the dyno and adjusted my camgears to +4in -2ex. This was about six months ago and haven't had any issues since. The only thing I've done to the car since is a Spoon header, Carsound cat, and T1R/N1 exhaust. Could the improved flow have thrown all my fuel settings off to cause this? I'm pretty much clueless and could use some advice, suggestions, etc.....Thanks guys

Possibly distributor coils. My went bad at around the same mileage. Caused hestitation mis-firing usually only noticeable at high rpm.
Hi,
When was the last time you changed your oil? Mine was like that when I drove it past the 3k mile interval. The oil was extremely dirty and after I changed it, the car ran fine.

You're right ActiveAero. I can almost guarantee the distributor has taken a crap. I know from actual experience. One of the things that actually destroys the coil is bad spark plug wires. They tend to ground out on the valve cover and goes straight to the infamous distributor. To prevent it from happening again is to change out wires and use thicker\better conductor ground wire from valve cover to chassis. If you get real expensive wires, each wire even has it's own ground usually bolted on to the exhaust manifold\header.

This kind of problem just happened in my GS-R, the problem was that these connectors or something inside the distributor had come loose. When it happend it my car the tach would bounce all over the place.
