Type R Withdrawal
Car has been in storage since nov 10th. I started her up the other day. I miss her soo much. Right now the whole no car thing is kicking in really bad. My mind has been wandering alot and i'm in this depressed state (life is really shitty currently). Usually i can turn to my car or a someone when i am like this. That someone isn't around and neither is my car. I'm about to slap my wheels back on, say f*** insurance and just go drive for a couple hrs. Sucks that i know better and won't.

Sixties in Chicago today. Only reason I'm here is that my track event this weekend at VIR was cancelled due to snow (there, not here).
BTW, Philly weather is mild enough that you can count on bringing your car out by mid March without fear of another snow...

I feel bad for you northern guys. I drove my R everyday, but when we get any snow & ice, I cringe when I see it all dirty from the wet, slushy roads.
I'm taking mine out around the 20th of March...I don't think that is too early nor too late...it won't snow that late in the year, hopefully... I live in PA too....and it gives the rain some time to wash away the salt thats on the roads...
Hopefully I'm right. I have a lot of things to put on my baby.

I feel bad for you southern guys, with all that snow in the Carolinas. We have great weather here.

Driving it twice around the block is worse for the car than not driving it at all.

I disagree with starting a car once a week or once a month during winter...that's too many dry starts...I haven't started mine since I turned it off in November...and I'm not worried at all...I'm limiting the number of cold, dry cranks it has to take...
Suckers. Drive those bitches already, that's the specific purpose they were built for, not to sit and look pretty in a garage. And don't give me that crap about Philly winters, my R came from Pittsburgh, the salt capital of the US.
I store my car for 2 reasons, road salt and also to save insurance money. i think the insurance one is key for me (20 yr old college student working part time). I try my best to keep my R but if expenses got high, bye bye R and that isn't happening

So because someone doesn't do what you do, they're wrong?
And yes, Pittsburgh is the salt capital of the world...that's where I live....Pittsburgh blows...

My insurance comes off...my car is in a mine though so it's ok...but I did check with the insurance company in the event that something would happen to the car, and they said it would be covered.

Well, if it's for financial reasons (i.e. not paying insurance for a few months) I can completely understand that. And while I disagree with the salt issue, I sort of understand that too. Just throwing out my $0.02.

What you should be doing, insurance-wise, is "removing the car from service". This means suspending liability coverage (for your liability for damage your car can cause, such as in a collision) and collision coverage (for damage your car can sustain in a collision), while retaining your comprehensive coverage (for the car's value if stolen, as well as damage your car can sustain from other causes, such as fire and vandalism). For most cars, this will save you 75-80 percent on your insurance bill during the period of the suspension (that's right, you pay one fourth to one fifth of your normal rates), since the biggest charge is usually for liability. But it keeps protection against things like theft, which any ITR owner needs.
I do this every year on my other car (which sits while my ITR gets salty
); my insurance company allows this for up to six months a year.
