Default Tire Issue

well, my front tires are starting to bald up. Would you guys recommend switching them with the back or just swap them with new race tires. This is for the expo. Also what do you recommend? Stock size...or 205/ 50/15's?

You have two different issues: what to do on the street, and what to do on the track. If your fronts still aren't yet down to the wear bars, you can rotate them to the back and put the rear ones (with more tread) on the front, to balance out the wear.

As for the track... If you have a lot of track experience, sure, get an extra set of wheels and some track tires (like A032R in 205/50-15). But if you've never been on the track before, don't bother, since you won't be using the tires or the car to its full potential anyway; you'll be fine with the stock RE010 in 195/55-15.

It's kinda hard to say w/o actually seeing the tires, but just rotate front-to-back for now.

fwiw: Kelly went to buttonwillow last year on what I thought were low tread, but 10K miles later he finally changed them this past weekend.

yoshi - who recommends j00 check out my Azenis I'll be mounting this week

Speaking of Falken Azenis......They are great tires, I just got mine last week and I already tried them on the local AutoX over the weekend
These tires are very grip....better than the RE-010 a lot. Almost as good as the Yoko A032R ( IMO )

I will call the Azenis as a street tire with race compound performance in it

Rotate them, and have a seperate set of 205/50-15 A032Rs. By mounting even softer, higher performance rubber on the front, and leaving the rear tires RE010s, you will have comparitively less traction in the rear than the front, so I am predicting oversteer. Which can be dangerous. Cars usually do not wreck because of understeer.

Holy crappers! They actually come in 215/45/16 's?! And they are only $116 each? And they are better than the R010's? !

Need to know a few things on it though.. What's the treadwear on yours? What size are you running? And are they also ok for the street?
I plan to do some autocrossing and mostly highway driving. So I have one last question. Are they safe in the rain?

I'm using 205/50/15 on my stock rims. The treadwear is 200.....don't let that number fool you, the tires get pretty stick after heat up ( in AutoX ) and even has more grip than RE-010.

And I don't see any problem in rain too

I got 205/50R15 and treadwear is 200.
I look at these tires as the reverse of AO32s...trackable street tires

t00 bad j00 din get them last week when they were $20 cheaper They're still a good deal at the "new" price though.

Great.. I missed the low price..
I'm having a problem wearing down my PZero's though.. I got them in March.. I'll need to drive harder and go to more AutoX's so I can wear them down and get the Falkens

Cars usually do not wreck because of understeer.
Huh? I thought this was the main reason for track disasters. Someone takes a turn to hot, too late to brake, OOPS...

Big time. Same type tires front and rear are STRONGLY recommended. Don't be foolish...

Not necessarily. Understeer may cause cars to go off under control, but oversteer more often causes cars to spin out of control. Another big cause of accidents is understeer, where the car puts two or four wheels off, then gets turns back towards the track, the tires grip, and you've immediately got severe oversteer, with the car shooting across the track to the opposite side.

Yes, they have them in 215-45/16, i had them installed last Saturday, and I can tell you that they are fairly sticky, I'm loving them so far...but then again I am coming from **** Nitto NT-450's...I'll let everyone know what I think of them after the autocross this Sunday...so far on the mountain twisties that I drive they are stickier than I care to drive.
