Suspension Problem (please help)
Well, when it comes to my cars suspension, I can safely say that I have been to hell and back. Just when all my problems are solved I was quickly reminded that the only thing permanent is change.
My problem is that I just ordered my Prokits and I do not know if I need a camber kit. Now before you all lynch me for not searching I must tell you that this question cannot be answered by just searching.
My problem is that my car is basically my daily driver. The other problem is that I just went to my first auto-X (just to watch) and now I want to auto-x. Basically I want a daily driver that I can auto-X as well. Heres the dilema though...I was told that because the drop on the Prokit is minimal that I will not be needing a camber kit. They said that I could just take it to the dealer and get an allignment to bring it to within factory spec.
The only problem is that will this factory spec give me the little amount of camber I need (-1.0 degree for example) that will still be suitable for daily driving as well as beneficial to me when I auto-X?
Any and all comments are greately appreciated
PS
Forgive me for posting in this forum, I am quite aware that I drive a GS-R, but I know that most of the R owners frequently auto-X and see plenty of track time and I was hoping that I could get as much advice as possible in making my decision.
Thanks,
KANJI

I am not sure I understand your question. I have the Mugen Lowdown suspension which lowers my car 3/4". I had an alignment and I now have 1.5 degrees of negative camber all around, which is at the edge of the factory specification. This amount of negative camber is fine for daily driving and tire wear is not too uneven. Any less than that and you may need a camber kit - though some have reported daily drivers with even more nagative camber.
Isn't factory spec for camber like 1.0 +/- 0.5 on most Honda's? On a GS-R it should've been at about 0 without any drop. If you put just ProKit, then don't worry about damaging any parts or getting a camber kit. Just get an alignment done and you're set.
p.s. if you want to correct your camber the cheap way, you can fix the rear camber by just buying some washers and put 'em the rear back to 0.5 or 0.0 spec.

hey Kanji!
it was nice to meet you and Mintydip at El Toro. If you're going w/ Pro kits, dont worry about camber. Just make sure to have the car aligned afterwards. (only the toe on our cars can be adjusted). I went w/ 1/4" total "toe-out" in front and zero toe in rear. No weird tire wear
also, I had 3degrees of neg camber on my EF before and the tires never wore out funny. Probably helped that I rotated them often, but the tires always wore evenly.

Hey Yoshi and Kanji. I had a blast at the auto X. It was great to finally meet someone from this board. Great to put some names to faces.
Kanji: Didn't you see my camber with the Koni and pro setup?

If you are just starting out at autocrossing, don't worry about things such as camber. Install your ProKits, get an alignment and concentrate on developing your driving skills first. Once those are developed, you will gain a sense about which alignment setups work best for you. eg toe-out on the front wheels will give you excellent turn-in under load, but sucks on the street as your car will wander......
First off, thanks for all the responses. It seems that there is a general concensus that I do not need a camber kit. Hmmm, I already ordered the Eibach recommended ones about 5 days ago, I guess I'll just have to find a way to cancel.
Yoshi & MintyDip- It was nice meeting the both of you. Its nice that I can associate names with faces now. I just wish I could have stayed longer but the sun was taking its toll on me and I forgot to bring a chair.
I look forward to seeing you both at the event in Hollywood, and this time I'll be there before 7:30am just so I can get an idea of how the car inspection and registration aspect of the event works.
Once again, thanks for all the responses.
