Default Suspension

Just looking to achieve a 1.7-8 inch drop (want it to resemble FusionR's)... a few things are going through my head. I found a really good deal on h&r sport springs used ($100)... so obviously those are in the back of my head. Stock handling is good enough for me, however a small improvement would be fine. Mainly just want to lower the car and not lose performance or put my stock parts in danger. I am just concerned about running that low of a drop with only H&R Sports.

Please no "Coilovers." posts... I know those have their benefits, but I am not looking to go overboard, just achive what i am looking for, no more.
I just need the minimum as long as it is safe/reliable. Sorry if i was redundant.

Thanks Guys.. experience is appreciated.

I've been running Neuspeed Sport springs (1.8") on my stock shocks for 25k miles. My shocks are done. Gone. The car is hella bouncy through corners, and is a bit scary. The one strut is starting to make a clicking noise.

I have a set of the Neuspeed/Koni Yellows on order (they're backordered right now). I will be able to post some comments then. From my research, the ONLY shock to buy are the Koni Yellows...

Apexi N1 dampers.
Cheaper than Mugen and just as good.

There is no way you can run that much of a drop on full length shocks, and not be nailing the bumpstops all the time.

You can do it, and you may think it looks all phat or whatever, but it'll handle like ***.

That's why you run the Neuspeed/Koni Yellows, which have a 20mm shorter piston, and then it's all good again!!! Adjustable perches, adjustable valving, a great deal for 560 shipped to your door...

The only thing Neuspeed is good at is marketing. You don't shorten a piston rod to fix the stroke! Why? Because you didn't change anything! You still lose just as much suspension travel.

Those Neuspeed springs are also way too low for any track use.

Warren -> so you think running Koni yellows should be done only with stock spring high, cause lowering springs are bad for the damper, correct?

You can go about an inch lower on the Konis, on 400 lb/in springs or higher. You will only touch the bumpstops under hard cornering then, though you'll still need to trim the first block of the bumpstop.

1 inch is'nt that low. What springs would you suggest? Eibach, Spoon? I think those just go down about 25mm (approx 1 inch). On the Konis there are 2 different high settings in front (stock and -30mm) and 3 high settings on the rear (stock +/- 20mm).

Are there stiffer springs with stock high available?

Yup, pretty much. I was in the same position, I just wanted a street setup for my R (unfortunately, when I first bought the car, it came with a modified suspension. Neuspeed Race with stock shocks, yeah, you can imagine how that rode). So I installed KONI yellows with Eibach Pro Kits. Why the Eibach Pro Kits? Because they only lowered about .75" from stock ride height. Rides pretty good for a street setup.

How is that Koni damper designed when there is a lower setting. Doe'nt the lower setting of the damper hurts the stroke ratio.

Warren,

Thanks for your input.

What I am wondering is... will it be acceptable to use Koni Yellows and the H&R sports to achieve a 1.7-8 drop? Will handling be improved, and is that drop possible with that combination?

Thanks,
Jon

What fault do you find with the stock suspension?

Reid - who wishes everyone knew just how good the stock suspension is...

No flaws I see... I love it. If you noticed in my original post, I am fine with the stock handling, I just want to be 1.7-8 inhes lower. I am getting the JM front, and I dont like the way it looks without that kind of a drop.
