Shift without using the clutch?
I was watching the best motoring vcd last night. Notice that the drifting-king (forgot his name) was shifting up in his GT500 NSX WITHOUT stepping on the clutch (not once) and yet when he heel & toe, downshift, he did use the clutch.
My friends just told me a few days ago that you don’t actually need the clutch to shift. This is a whole new concept to me and I totally don’t understand how and why you wouldn’t need the clutch (without damaging the transmission)
Of course I won’t try that with my daily driving car…. But then I really want to understand how this works and it would be great if someone can explain this with detail.
TIA.

I don't do it in either of my cars since both of them have ITR transmissions.
But when the CX was stock, all the time.
I would use the clutch to take off, but that's it. No clutch the rest of the way.
Who cares, it's a D15B w/ a shitty tranny anyway.
Oh, and we used to do that all the time on the old Nissan parts truck.
