Rear Diffuser.

So I was wondering?

has anybody removed the spare tire well and made a functional rear diffuser? Along with some smooth underbody panels?

The exhaust would have to route out the side I would imagine to make the lowest pressure possible.

I know. I've been thinking about as well. Would be a nice project to start.

Carbon fiber is the problem. Too expensive. But I've found another material which I picked up 5 yards @ 60"s wide. Its fiberglass but one side is alluminized. So its heat resistant up to 300F and wont burn.

This would be the top layer of the fiberglass mold. Clear epoxy would be used so there wouldn't be much prep on the surface side. And people say this stuff looks like silver carbon fiber.

So the issue is you can't make flat panels with Fiberglass, well you can but there not very strong. So you need to make ridges on the backside to help with flexing.

With the tire well gone and exhast gone it would be easy to design the diffuser. Making the underbody smooth is the hard challange.

All of these links still retain the factory tire well. A much greater/noticable downforce could be created if you remove the well. and part of the bottom of the bumper.

I've done some testing using tecplot. I made a basic intergra model in autocad.

They go for 500 I believe. I came pretty close to getting one for my old car.
