really weird dashlight problem
ok, i got my new non power door handles today and i was trying to install them...i unplugged them from the stock harness on one side and i closed the door and pressed my keyless entry button, it locked and unlocked.
i then took out my ashtray console to put this clip in it, that it was missing. done...
i started the car, and my dashlights came on, weird...so i turned on my lights and my dashlights went off...ok this is strange...i put everything back to stock and it did it. then it stopped and now the dash lights wont come on...i took out the ashtray piece in case something was hitting a wiring...still same situation...i checked the 7.5 A fuse and it is still good... (makes a ringing noise with car off, door open and lights on).
what's going on here, did i really screw something up by taking off the power door locks for that second?

non power door handles? you mean you put in rear RS bezels that dont have the silver lock switch? or something else? Im running the RS bezels and I didnt have anything strange like this happen.
ringing noise? like feedback? that means too much current through certain wire - i'm not 100% sure about that one and how it would explain what you got going on.. its probably something else not related to door lock wiring. check all fuses, starting from under the hood. this is when helms comes in handy
Simple. follow the wire in the ash tray and cig. wire they are probley pinching together. or if you have an after market radio check behind there.
sorry, the ringing noise i meant is the headlight reminder...
has an aftermarket stereo, which i took everything out, and i must say the stereo shop that did the install is great, they didnt cut any stock wiring. no wires are pinched either...
im thinking it may be the dimmer switch...i just wouldnt think if they went bad all of a sudden that the dash lights would turn on without my headlights at first...

see i just unplugged the stock power door locks, i didnt cut into any wiring. i dont like to cut stock wiring, id rather try and make a plug n play harness than splice...
maybe...im going to take a volt meter to the dash light harness when i get home from work..im trying to source a "new" switch right now so i can just plug it in and see if it works...

did you just unplug the power lock switch, or did you run a relay for another switch in a different location?

nothing have to do with the doors. there is no parking light pos. or neg. wire(s) running into or in the doors. your probley right your dimmer switch is shot. The red wire is the neg side of the dimmer light. the red/blacj is the hot side of your light. So if there is no ground on the red wire then gota check the dimmer. More likely when you rescrewed the ash tray back in you probley pinched the red wire. Look very closley following the red wire. to see if any pinch mark are there. or simply u can gound the red wire and your light should come on, but the dimmer no longer works.
well i checked the wiring and i am happy to say the least...last night i bought a new DMM, and it was broken...i just returned it and got a new one and checked my wiring...
both positive wires were getting ~12v with lights on, and the ground has some continuity...so it is the switch...
i swear, weird little things are breaking on this car, hopefully this is number 3 and i wont have anymore to deal with...
