Picked up an R yesterday #01-????
After wanting an R for the last 12 years, I have finally got my hands on one. I drove up to WA yesterday and picked up a 01 ITR that has been sitting in storage for the last 5+ years. The car hasn't been driven for over 5 years and hasn't been started in 3-4 years.
In February of 2006 a good friend of mine was killed, this was his project at the time and after his passing the car went to his uncles house and sat in a garage for two years, then under a carport for the last 3+ years.
I sent my friends mom a message back in October of last year and she got back to me a few weeks ago, after a few phone calls back and forth we were able to seal a deal and I was able to drive up and pick it up. I did not start the car to get it on the auto transport and don't plan on starting it until I do a small tear down, replace some gaskets, seals, flush all the fluids and change the oil.
At the time of his death, the car was in the process of being painted, his mom asked the guy to try and get the car done before the funeral services but he was unable to do so. The paint is completely f***ed on the car and the front bumper/lip isn't painted. The only place I have found any over spray in on the muffler but nothing that a little elbow grease can't fix.
The arm rest badge is missing and was replaced with a MUGEN badge... I'm not sure what # it is and don't know how to find out. If someone can help me with this PM me please.
Its a 2001 Nighthawk Black Pearl ITR... It has a salvage/rebuilt/theft title (not sure what the title will say for sure once it transfered from WA to OR.)
B18C5 block with VIN tag, Head is stamped as being cast in 99.
Transmission is not a ITR tranny.... Its either a 94-95 Hydro tranny or a JDM tranny, it has no Vin tag and no holes for one. It also does not have any stickers on it. Im thinking it could be a JDM GSR with optional LSD (he had this transmission in his previous car that was wrecked.) But i wont know for sure until i pull the motor motor out.
I'm planning on stripping it down to the shell and having it repainted and then a slow reassemble to replace anything that needs replaced.
I also have the stock GM ITR wheel and I bought a OEM Metal hood to replace the CF one that is on the car.
Anyways Here are some photos...

Thanks Man.... I'm glad that I was able to work out a deal with his mom. I have loved this car since the first time I saw it and I'm glad that I can finish it and it won't get parted out or his memory and love for this car lost. I will keep this car FOREVER!

cool/sad story. Your Friend was putting a lot of heart and money into it from what it looks like. Pm me some Vin info and I can see what I can find out on the badge number
and BTW drain the oil, try a stock ECu and see it it starts up just to see, no harm there

Send the VIN to Joe (Doespike). He may know the history of the car and it's badge number... he may not have records on this actual car but he may have the closest vin before and after it, which will give you a very good guess at the car's number.
Good job saving the R and finishing your friend's project.

BTW, You have a PM. Thanks!
You forgot the 971 also

Thanks, I hope he is R-ing.I.P... Its been a crazy few years.
I had two people PM me to ask what happened to him, so, here is a link to an early story.

This is from about a year later
http://abcnews.go.com/2020/story?id=3359185&page=1
Darren (my buddies roommate) accused the guy of stealing a jacket from the house, a few days later he came back and made amends with Darren and Dan only to shoot and kill them minutes later because he felt disrespected at the whole jacket situation. He then stole a safe from Darrens room and left the scene.
Dan was sitting at his computer, most likely on Honda-Tech or Myspace and was shot in the back of the head twice.

read the story. pretty messed up of that guy. God speed on the rest of your journey to finish the project. I made a promise to my friend to build an amazing ITR and give him a ride in it. He later passed away too, but every time I want to give up, I think about him and it pushes me to finish it up so I can give him that ride I promised him.
