Default OT? Shift ***** and thermal conductivity

Here in Australia its summer. It reached 98.8F here in Perth today, and when I went to drive my ITR in the middle of the day, my titanium shift **** was so HOT!

Did anyone at Honda consider warm weather at all when designing this thing?

Then I looked at the Mugen shift ****. Duralumin, not titanium. Curious, I went looking for the relative thermal conductivity of titanium vs Duralumin... and Duralumin is like 10 times more conductive! I can only imagine how many people have burst into flames after touching their Mugen shift **** in summer.

For reference:
http://www.electro-optical.com/mater...ops/metals.htm

Just thought I'd share this discovery. If anyone has a Mugenshift **** and hasn't yet burst into flames, please let me know. Also, if anyone has evidence to dispute my findings, please post it.

Nothin for nothin but. I took a spin last night and the Temp was around 18 degrees Farenheit. So you can imagine the chill I got with each shift till, it was a little warmer in the cabin. The heat I understand as well, but the cold is soo cold!

It is a nice shift **** though...

I was thinking about offering an extensive line of "8 ball" shift *****. Do you think they'd sell well?

I have a 98 (obviously) and ditched the stock "NSX Style" shift **** for the OEM "Carbon Fiber" one. It is wonderfully thermostable.

And I bet it weighs less than your 00-01 "titanium" knobbers

I just use a rag and cover it until it cools off a bit. Might just get a GSR leather one someday.

Yeah i had a fake CTR **** and my hands would get sweaty and slip off the ****. Also after driving for a while the **** would get hot. I finally took it off and replaced it with my stock GSR ****. That thing is so comfy and grips good. I love it.

I can't tell what that ****'s made of, from looking at the picture.

It looks like you mirror my opinion of what a shift **** should be, though.
George:
I made the **** in my garage. It has 432 quasi-icosahedral dimple design for maximum grip, thin surlyn cover, and light muscle fiber core.

Much more fun to obtain. Doubles as a handy change holder, too

Sort of OT, but Bang & Olufsen makes the remotes for their sound systems out of zinc because of its thermal properties. No matter how long you hold the remote in your hand it will not make your palm sweat.

I got the Momo Zebrano Wood Super Anatomico precisely because the wood is always a pretty comfortable temperature. It looks out of place with the aluminum interior kit, but I refuse it give it up.

I'm using a RAZO RA54 shift ****. I haven't had any thermal problems as the **** is covered by mostly carbon fibre.

If anybody is looking to get rid of their titanium shift ****, let me know.

98 degrees? Bah! I live in AZ USA. You don't know hot until you have driven in a 128 degree Lake Havasu summer. I have a black Mugen ****. Let's just say I have learned to shift quickly and cleanly.

If you can't stand the temp, get the 97-98 ****.
