Default LS diff vs ITR diff

Hey guys,

Can the ITR LSD be used in an LS tranny and vice versa? I'm asking for 2 reasons:

1. Sometimes the car doesn't seem to hook up, especially on wet surfaces. I'm wondering if if's possible that the guys who sold me the car jacked the LSD for something else before he sold it (the tranny is already grinding bad 2-3)

2. Since my synchros are bad, I might wanna just go and replace the entire thing next spring with a rebuilt (possible?) or a new one (bling!). If the LSD works in the LS tranny, I have an LS that could use it.

Thanks for the advice,
Eric

Yeah but he's saying the owner before him may have changed out the factory one and sold it or something...

I believe you also have to buy a ring gear and final drive for the LS tranny for the ITR LSD to fit... I don't believe it will go right in with no modifications...

That is correct. You will need to use the ring gear and countershaft from either an ITR or a GS-R (94-01).

If your going to go thru all that, why not looking into buying a whole legit ITR tranny used from someone?
I'm sure there are some for sale in the classifieds

Thanks for the advice guys. I just don't want to end up with another tranny that grinds. If I rebuild it, I can change the final drive at the same time.

Yes, you can, but the cost of parts can equal or exceed the cost of a new transmission. In fact, it certainly will if you plan on replacing both the LSD and the final drive. Easier, and probably a little cheaper, to simply buy a new or rebuilt tranny.

However, if you prefer to do things yourself, sometimes cost is not the highest consideration.

Thanks, I totally agree with you. Maybe I can find a JDM tranny for sale. I'm assuming it will bolt right up with no problems? I'll do a search later when I get home from work.
