Default Itr dipstick

Today i noticed the dip stick showed i had no oil in the car. On the spot i quickly added oil after adding 2qtrs i noticed that my oil level was a half a qrt over the limmit. To me that picture didnt look good...So after scratching my head for a while
my Bro and i where looking at the dipstick and thinking it was a bit short..kinda like a 1.6b16 stick...Since this is a jdm swap it could have came off my b16 i had prior....So what i was thinking is someone measure there dip stick from the green part down and post up there resault...I measured at 9 and 3/8....thanks in advance

Well, I'd measure mine for you if I had my car here... But did you give it about 10 minitues after turning the car off to check the oil level? And did you leave another 5 after you put more oil in?!

First of all measure the oil on a level surface and COLD. A warm motor and/or un level surface will give you an inaccurate reading.

what i like to do is:

1. park on level surface.
2. warm car up w/o revving.
3. let stand w/motor off for 5-10 minutes.
4. check dipstick.

this has always gotten me good readings.

You are supposed to check when completely cold. And it most likely will not be that accurate if you warm the car up 10 minutes prior to checking. Think about it logically. When you start the car, the motor starts lubricating the internals, and giving it only ten minutes means that some of the oil is still going to be on all those parts, therfore giving you a reading that is lower than the amount of oil that is actually in the motor.

There are several ways you can double-check to see if your dipstick is the right one:

1. You can get together with another local ITR owners and play a game of "let's see whose is longer" to see if yours is the right length. Or swap them to see what each dipstick reads in the other guy's car.

2. You can do an oil change using the correct amount of oil, and see where it reads on the dipstick.

3. You can buy a new dipstick. They can't be all that expensive.

the b16 and ITR are the same stick....the stick pole is the same..just different block heights.

Yup, hot or cold doesn't really matter - as long as the engine has shut off for 5-10 minutes so the oil has had a chance to settle down to the oil pan. I've had people say that cold reads higher because ALL the oil has settled to the bottom, hot reads higher because the oil has expanded with the heat, and these two factors cancel each other out.

I'm pretty sure the manual tells you to run the engine and shut it off for 5-10 minutes. But I check it when the engine is cold anyway. IT DOESN'T MATTER. It's not like it's that precise anyway; if your reading is off (or high or low) by a quarter of a quart, it's nothing to worry about.

Okay, so let me get this right:

1. You are swearing and insulting people who have given you advice that would be helpful to anyone else but you.

and

2. You are intent on destroying your engine by never changing the oil and running it down below the dipstick anyway. (Even if you need to add oil between changes, you still need to change the oil to get all the dirt and impurities out of there.)

So that's a good description of what you're doing. Right? I just want to make sure I understand.

I was wondering about this the other day.
Is one supposed to measure the topside or the underside of the dipstick?
