So I get the odd ticking noise, first I thought valves were just out of spec, so I got a valve adjustment done. Still there. So i did a comp test, everything's good. Then i stuck my head under the hood and it def. sounds like it's comming from the injector/IM area...is this normal, it's quite loud and not a bent valve, it's constant. Doesn't change when RPMs increase. Very odd. Am I crazy?

 

My R has a tick tick tick tick sound from the fuel rail area- Always had it...

For the most part the Rs have it, common thing.

That makes me feel a bit better. Anyone ever used that "snake oil" fuel injector cleaner, does it acutally work? Or is it really just snake oil.

its normal. and mine are loud as hell on 370cc injectors. think if it like this: take your garden hose with spray nozzle, and spray it full blast. does it make a noise? yes it does. now take that same hose, and squeeze and release the trigger really fast. does it still make noise? yup. its just the sound of pressure pushing the liquid from its container.

If this is the case, why wasnt this "ticking" noticable when the R was new...

I thought my Hype R ticked loud... Until I got the Turbo Pig

Big sprayers + five of them = lots of noise.

Probably for the same reason it no longer has that new car smell. its broken in.

Baby - that isn't your injectors making noise, its your brain...

 

I'm sure they've been doing it all along, it's just one of those things you notice as you get more used to every little noise the car makes and you go "oh **** what was that"

Injectors should tick to some degree as the ball and spring expands and contracts when the injector pulses....however, they shouldn't be so loud that you can here it from inside the car. If its that loud, you may want to clean them...plain jane in-tank injector cleaner for the parts stores should be ok for starters, but if they are still loud after that, it may need to be cleaned and balanced professionally.

My DSM injectors are ridiculously loud. You cant hear them in the cabin, but they are very loud outside of the car.

 

My RC 310's are pretty loud...I thought it was the mobil 1 on the last oil change/turbo install...but it's definately the injectors.

 

my friend's totally stock 2001 ITR has ticked from day one. nothing you don't get used to.


my old 850cc rc injectors sounded like a honda motor that hadn't had it's valves adjusted in 150k. ridiculously loud and never stops. then the aeromotive pump. need damn ear plugs.

 

All I have to say is make sure it's not your valves. Yes, injectors tick but if you hear it coming from your fule rail it could be your number one valve, and generally unless you are running like 1000cc injectors you should never hear the tick from injectors.
