Default How are the emblems held on?

I want to take the front emblems off and replace them with standard crome ones. However, I dont know what is holding them on. I know they are stuck on with a kind of rubbery tape, but I also know that there are two pins. Are the pins just to align the emblems, or are they held on by the pins? Thanks for the help. Also, I have a 98 Helm manual, do I have to buy the 01 manuals or will the 98's work fine?

sort of pins - they are just plastic extensions from the back of the emblem that push through two holes in the body to align them right. I believe they melt the backside to help hold them on.

Last I heard, there is also some double sided tape, or adhesive. I don't recall the back of the pins being flattened or melted for retention, but I suppose it is possible.

AP, if you want to do the job right try this:

1. Front emblem.
a. take off the front bumper
b. the front emblem is has 2 locking washer holding the pins (use your 98 Helms manual)
c. once the locking washers are off, use hair drier to make the adhesive flexible
d. get some teeth floss and place it in between the emblem and the front bumper
e. use jig-saw motion to separate the emblem from the bumper
f. don't rub the floss again the bumper, you might scratch it.

2. Rear emblem
a. heat up the emblem w/ a drier
b. use floss... jig-saw motion

That's it! Do not use screw driver... just floss it until it comes off.

Thanks, that is how I took off the spoiler. Floss and jig saw motion. I also looked for the emblems in the manual and could not find it any where, that is why I asked if there was anything holding it on. Thanks for the help

Well, because my front emblem was stolen a few days ago, I can speak from experience. The plastic pins to help hold the emblem on. When mine was ripped off, the plastic pins broke, and the remaining pieces won't come out. I haven't taken the time to investigate how to release them, but it looks like they were "melted" from the back, or something similar.

F_cking thieves...

Flyod,

Just take of your bumper use a plier to putt out the stuck pins. A lot easier this way than to try to pull it out from the front of the car.
