Default highest vtec crossover

i was told this about vtec crossover points please correct if wrong

b18c1...4,400rpm
b16a....5,600rpm
b18c5..5,800rpm
h22a...5,200rpm

what is the reason for the certain cross over points for diff motors, esp the c1 motor?

some has to do with the following:
a) gearing of the car with mind for daily dirving
b) to provide best of powerband, like different cams on itr from gsr lead to different vtec crossover

when tuned with different setups (n/a or boosted) may lead to different crossorver points.

Don't take it the wrong way. Not trying to be a dick, just saying how quickly misinformation can be spread.

which motors vtec you think kicks in the hardest i cna only speak for the b16 and c5 motors.

b16 was weak and i only really noticed big diff in sound, power seemed minimal, my c5 motor vtec kicks iin very hard w/ big change in sound

the boost? is there a turbo I wasn't aware of hidden somewhere?

sorry. I think it pulls noticeably harder. It gets more noticeably louder at 5600, I guess. I've never cared that much about what exact rpm my engine gets louder, but a lot of people seem to.

If you look at a B18C1 dyno there is not as much of a noticeable spike in the graph at VTEC crossover as there is on a B18C5 plot.

B18C1 = 4400 rpm end of story.

F20C - 6000 rpm

*B18C5 - 5700

Every motor is different and has an idea crossover due to many factors.

Exactly... So many factors play into when designed VTEC to come in... Compression, rod stroke, bore, camshaft design, intake manifold, etc. etc... That's why VTEC engagment varies per motor...

I like my car to have only audible VTEC crossover.

agreed.

Like night and day, which is odd on a *bigger* displacement motor.

I never been in a NSX but the prelude has the biggest "kick" aka dip.

Although I've used my hondata s200 to modify it, my car likes it's 6,000 x-over.

it doesn't even matter, because alot of people switch Vtec x-overs with Hondata or VAFC.

I have a b18c1 that hits vtec at 5800rpm.
