Found the Compression Problems
Well, went back to the dyno today to play with the Hondata some more. Wanted to see if we could figure out why the car was not making the power it should. He refused to dyno it till we diagnosed it, so last dyno, which was about 2 weeks ago was 194 hp and 129 ft-lbs.
First test, compression, (1-4) 150, 125, 220, 188. Second test, leak down. We did this, despite having one done that showed no leak down. Here are the numbers I remember (1-4) 1 94% leakdown, 2 97% leakdown, 3 10-15% leakdown, 4 about 20% leakdown. Turns out the intake valves are not seating. Not sure of the cause, but they are not closing all the way. Valves are in spec, or they checked out to be.
I see that as good news, #1, I know what the problem is, #2, I know that it is not my inability to tune, #3, that is some decent power for compression and leakdown results like that. I am not in the mood to work on the car again, but the thought of what the car will actually do when it is fixed has changed my mind.
Oh well, I will keep you all posted. I hope to have it fixed and retuned before Battle of the Imports in VA. We will see...

Yea, and caught early it could help you avoid a catastrophe. If I had had a leakdown/compression done before I got my B16A out this winter, I'd still have $4000 in it that had to be spent on a new motor
. Good luck with the car man, EV.

Check the valve lashes. If it's too tight it won't seat. Or... did you already check that? What valve specs did you check??
Does the car run kinda crappy on lower rpm, but seems okay up top?

We checked the valve lash, they were set to TODAs recomended .2. I am going to let it cool and check them one last time before I pull the head. I will bet they are slightly off, but not enough for 97% leak down.
