Fixing the Compression Problems
Took the head off and took it to the local maching shop ... that I trust. They cleaned and pressure tested the head, no cracks, good. Took out the intake valves and there it was. The intake valve faces were destroyed, beat all to hell. Hard to see till you use a magnifying glass, but it is there. Some nice chunks taken out too, looked like when you took mom's favorite knife and beat it on the concrete sidewalk.
Exhaust valves look to be fine. They had some wear from heating up and bonding with the head, so I am replacing those too. They are not bad, but may as well do it while they are in there and the head is off.
Not using factory this time. Opted for stainless to deter the bonding of metals. I will let you all know which one I choose when the head is complete.
