Hey everyone,
I'm new to the itr world, I just bought a used 1998. I hear a slight knocking when I pop the hood and let the car idle. I can't hear it while I'm in the car, just outside when I pop the hood. Anyone experts here have any advice? Should I worry about this? How can I fix this problem? Thanks.

 

Are you sure it's knocking and not the valves tapping? Have you adjusted the valves at all recently? You might need to adjust your valves or if this is your first B-series motor you just aren't used to how loud they are at idle.

 

get a valve adjustment. that's more likely than the previous owner over-revving and then selling it.

 

My injectors chatter quite noisily...are you sure its a knocking sound???

 

a slight tapping of the valves in C5 motors is normal, if it's more the a slight tap then get them adjusted, should get them adjusted anyway

 

these engines do make weird noises - could be A/C or Power Steering pumps too lol
