Default Differences in Itr Shifter?

anyone know the difference in the older type r vs the newer type r shifters?

this is from a 98: part #54101-ST7-000 http://www.hondapartsunlimited...7C002

this from a 2000: part #54101-ST7-Z00 http://www.hondapartsunlimited...7C002

The 2000+ part is chrome, the 1997 is black, and someone can check this too but I think the 98 part is also black.

I ordered a new change lever when I had my 00' (and it was chrome) and I got a new one for the 97 (and it was black) and this is how they were.

Yes, 97-98 was black because of the black leather, red stitching shift ****. 00-01 was chrome because of the titanium ****. But they are physically the same, just aesthetically different.
