i live in canada in a city where cop radars/scanners are undiscovered. iam planning to buy a radar/scanner from detroit(cloesest city for car parts).
what radar/scanner do u guys reccomend????
iam gonna use it mostly for city driving.

ya the thing that warns u when a cop is near by.

 

it will only warn you if they have some sort of radar on. so dont think that it will tell you whenever there is a cop close by. most of the time the cops dont have their radar or laser on so it pretty much makes it useless. scanners on the other hand tell you what cops are doing. but i would go with uniden or cobra for the small radar detectors and scanners. but if you really want to get crazy i heard valentine one's are pretty good.

also to pull me over for speeding , they only can pull me over if they have caught my speed on their radar ?

When they pull you over for speeding in the US you are allowed to ask the officer how fast you were going and to show you the number on his radar gun. If he didn't use his radar gun then according to the law your ticket is not valid. I don't know how it is in canada but thats how it is here in the US. There are also radar jammers available that jams the radars signal so the cop doesn't know how fast you were going. They also have a warranty that states if you get a speeding ticket within 15 mph of the posted speed limit they will pay for your ticket.

 

Yeah, what he said. If a cop ever tries to pull a fast one on you, take it to court. Without a precise reading of your speed, the court will throw out the case in a matter of seconds. And btw, Cobra sucks. Get a Valentine 1 for $400, or if you're cheap, get the Escort Passport 8500 for $300...but in my mind, those arrows on the V1 are indispensable. u think that thing is gonna work ? US cops may be have diferent frequency then canadian cops, i know if u get radar detector from taiwan it will not detect cops here in north america, plus if cops see u using radar detector ur licence is gone u are not allow to have those in canada @@ i know in taiwan they have those radar detector will fit in ur bumper so that cops will not know (but too bad the frenquece is different)
last time when my got pull over for speeding the cop thought the airfresher was the radar detect he was gona take my friends licence till my friend showed him what it was...

 

valentine 1 is the best radar on the market if you wanna dish out the 400 bills.

 

In california radar detectors are legal but radar jammers are not. And I guess it depends where your at on how useful the detector is.. I was gogin to LA on 5 and the detector went off when I was near police cars in general.. I stopped at harris ranch and it went off when I drove by two empty police cars.... unless CHP has a thing for leaving their radars on.

I was using my firneds for the trip.. I think it was an scort passport 8500? does that sound right? x band I think is bull but even when cops were driving around I think it blinked k band.. but you gotta have that thing in ur peripheral vision cus I dind;t hear it with the radio on..

 

Because with VTECH, Type R's shoulda came with OE dectectors.

 

heck yea especially if you got the PY popo magnet it should be standard.. it can make up for the lack of cruise control haha I wish I had that for the freeway man

 

I thought radar jammers were legal in the US. I believe in the ad it said it was legal in 48 states, california was one of them. The name was like Phantom or something like that.
