coolant flush question
I know to remove the radiator and engine drain plugs, but what are the steps to flush all the old coolant out of the system once the coolant is drained and before I fill with the new stuff?
is sticking a garden hose into the radiator using fresh running tap water okay while running the engine sufficient or should I just forget about it and drain and fill without trying to flush all the old coolant out?
Helms makes no mention of how to flush the coolant system.
thanks

uhm. undo plug on radiator, and bolt on engine block. let it all drain out.
then hondabond the bolt back on, plug up the radiator and j00 are ready to go!

edit: (dont run the engine without coolant...thats just
idea)

just leave the old stuff that doesn't drain out?
just making sure cause when I did the coolant system on my 325 bmws, part of the procedure was to run tap water through the cooling sysytem while the engine was idling to flush out the system. when I did that, I found a lot of crud would come out with the flushing.
maybe the honda cooling system design is just different and not needed?
and while I agree with you that running an engine with no coolant is bad, if I were to have fresh tap water running through the system while it was idling, how could that harm the engine? not arguing, just curious.

are you serious? if so, where in the helms does it say that? I just looked through mine and couldn't find anything like that. if you aren't serious...
anyway, already changed my coolant, but to flush it, I just put the engine plug and tightened the radiator drain plug, filled the system back up with fresh water and pulled the engine block plug off to let the water drain back outafter the radiator started overflowing. did this 3 times and the water was coming out clear by then from the block plug. opened the radiator drain plug to let all of the water out of the system, then tighened everything back up and filled with Honda coolant type 2.
job done.

Yes you should replace it as it is a crush washer. However, make sure you call around because the dealers dont usually carry 24mm (i think) washers in stock. I had to reuse mine.. 6K miles and no leaks :knock on wood:

Put the cap on and turn in untill it stops the first time (you will know) then run the car until the cooling fans come one at least twice. Remove the cap, and top off the cooland and the resevoir.

Guys..i ran the car idle...Ever since i rebuilt it, new gasket, intake manifold was off. type r oil cooler, etc. Messin around back there...i havent seen the fans come on yet.
Fuse is fine, i checked. There a way to force the fan on? or someway i can check it? Fan switch IS plugged in, already checked. car is NOT over heating either. Its actually running a tinny bit cooler then it did before

you can goto Autozone, Pep Boys, etc.... and get yourself a kit to place a bucket that connects to the radiator (from the cap) that holds coolant and you just fill it up and wait for it to run through and as it goes down just keep filling it.
