Default Comptech header questions

Is a comptech header worth getting? I just plan on autocrossing with the car if that makes a difference with what kind of header I should get. Also is it worth the money to get the 2.5 instead of the 2.25 exhaust. I just got a house so I'm trying to get the most out of my money and not spend any that I don't have to spend. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

It was dogged on prior to the great header test but it actually put up some really impressive numbers. I can't seem to find the link right now, but it was pretty impressive, and great for the price

What size are the flanges on the new ones from the factory, or can you get both?

Don't get a Comptech header... If I were you I'd go with a JDM 4-1, SMSP, or Hytech.

Comptech is a nice peice Chris. in every header question you say the same thing. get SMS/Hytech. well its not for everyone. and i bet the compyech and JDM perform about the same

Hehehe, that's because I want an SMSP or Hytech, but am using the money for something else.. I'm hoping that by someone else buying the header it will satisfy my urge!

With the house and all I can't really justify spending 2k on header and exhaust. But is it really nessassary to get a header with 2.5 flange on it and then have to get a cat to fit it? Could a header with 2.25 flange mounted to the factory cat give me enough to make it worth buying and tuning my VAFC? AAAAAHHHH I CAN'T MAKE DECISIONS!!!!! This header shopping is starting to get to me. Also are SMS and Hytech headers mainly for drag or would they work good for the AutoX?

i have the comptech header as well
it makes good power, you can find them used for a good price (or new)

with a high flow cat and exhaust its very nice

its kinda lame that people put the comptech down because of their ignorance of the power it makes

btw, comptech is also coming out with a race header. not sure when, but its supposed to have a bigger collector and other such important parts

If Comptech moved their offices from California to somewhere in Japan you would find a lot more people recommending them.

I thought the Great Header Test (where the Comptech piece gave essentially identical results to headers costing two to three times as much) would generate some sense, but the current theory du jour is that it will not perform as well as the more expensive headers when more tuning is done. Make what you will of that theory.

The most obvious manifestation of this bias is seen when the regular 'which flywheel should I buy' question is asked. Despite the fact that Comptech have the lighest flywheel that has been race proven (as opposed to bling proven) over several seasons by the Realtime Type-Rs, nearly all recommendations are for high bling JDM flywheels.

The advantage of this however is that used Comptech gear can be had quite cheaply - I picked up a TIG welded header and SS exhaust for $600 (new they are $1100).

Yea not enough credit goes to comptech, everyone says get the JDM 4-1,ha?The comptech beat it by 2whp in the great header test. And yes it is 4-2-1,and yes it is carb exempt, and yes it was on a typeR,and yes no ground clearence issues.

Do you really want a header for Auto X?

It really is not going to give you that much, and it will bump you out of DS.
Maybe you are already out of stock, but I would spend my money on race tires.

For my money I would by the DC JDM. Seems to give the most bang for the buck. If you want looks/quality and similar performance get the Comptech.

The AutoX is not the important part, that's just the only thing I'm doing with my car. I still need to know about the 2.5 inch flange, does it make that much difference?

I agree that a header is one of the best things you can do. All headers tested in the Great Test bumped max torque down from about 7k to 6k resulting in improved power in the whole VTEC range.

Just for the record I give the comptech header a

You mean the nitrous line plumbed into the intake, and the MSD ignition?

I prolly know Jonesy the least, met him once at an open house they had several months ago (fiasco, they were showing off their V6 SC in an Accord, and the power went out for like 3 hours), and I've spoken to him on the phone regarding some head work... I mostly talk to Bob and Shad... Matter of fact, I just got off the phone with Bob about 10 mins ago... My flywheel shipped this A.M.!
