compression tests
I just rebuilded my JDM engine and now I have 8000Km on it...
I did a compression test with a 2001 USDM type-r... and the USDM has 12 psi over me on the gage.... he had 180 psi on each cylinder I had 168psi...
i used a cheap gage thats why they are low.. but still there is a difference between the 2 engine?
what does this mean?
thanks

Sorry, but even 180 is low ...for an ITR.
Readings will also depend on how many times you let the motor turn over, and wether or not the throttle was held down.
Did you have all the plugs removed?

well on a usdm, if it is cold... and depending on the tester and how he tested... maybe not that bad
main thing is the one @ 168...
i would keep an eye on it...
if u did a warm compression test, then i would do a leak down and see were ur problem is

Assuming that you did the test right-
your valves may not be sealing completely
( valve spring height installed, valve lash, Valve grinding into the seats )
Improper seating of compression rings in the bottom end
Leak down FO SHO
Good luck

Hi,
I went to my friends house and i did a compression test with his gage which is the same gage i tested my engine with when i first bought it 3 yrs ago and it gave 210psi on each cylinder.. now with that same gage after the engine rebuild.. im getting 195psi... what went wrong in the rebuild?
thanks
