Code 45
My car is throwing a check engine code # 45. Can someone tell me what this is? I think it has to do with the straight pipe in replacement of my cat. Does this affect anything besides the light coming on? Does it make the ECU make any changes? Thanks for the help.
code 45 is correctly stated as too rich or too lean...
I have a chart that I found somewhere which lists all the codes...if you'd like it, email me and I'll reply to you w/ it...

code 45 is too rich to lean.
If I was standing in front of your car I could show you what is getting clogged up but i cant for the life of me remember what the name of the part is.
Its near the fuel filter under the hood along the injector rail.
It gets clogged and you need to clean it out and then it will run just fine.
Anyway the part says DENSO on it look above the intake manifold.
Oh yeah one more thing. Symptoms of code 45 are really nuts.
They will make your rpms drop way too bad if you roll in neautral, on or off brakes,
car will just suddenly start spuddering at a stop light, really acts up when cold,
loss of power big time, and when you go to turn the steering wheel the rpms will drop like 500 to 700 rpms and not recover.
Take it to the dealership and print this out for the mechanic to see.
I guarantee im 100% correct.

so if it was clogged then im running lean? My air/fuel says im rich when I give it gas. Im not sure how accurate this is. The air / fuel meter that is.

No you would be not running lean the reason the car sputtes is because the computer realizes there is a problem and increases the injector pulse width.
Get this fixed now because your running rich. (not in terms of pressure, i mean in terms of fuel via the injector pulse width) your plugs will be fouled, it could mess up your catalytic converter, and cause other problems.
running too rich is not good.
your guage only shows pressure which should be fine but maybe a little down.
your computer is compensating by dumping fuel.

Whoops just read your last post. I thought you were talking about a fuel pressure guage not an air fuel monitor. the a/f monitor is accurate but only at WOT.
All hondas will read rich at WOT on the autometer a/f guage. This is fine.
I still know you are truly running rich however if your car is throwing 45.
There is that line that your mechanic can put a vacum guage on, additionally he should clean it out no matter what the vacuum guage reads.
If he's skeptical tell him to call the honda tech line to verify.
Dude I just went through this whole nightmare trust me i know exactly what the deal is with code 45. If your car is acting up like its going to stall or whatever I can guarantee that im correct in my prognosis.

Sometimes my car really acts up. Like when I stop at a stoplight, the car jumps revs from 2 to 1 really fast and I have to turn the car off. Sometimes it makes it go away.
Hah i know it will increase in rpm or drop and almost stall.
its really nuts. Good news is if you get to it fast enough you'll save yourself all the headaches i went thru.

i think your talking about the map sensor. Does it have a vacuum line going to it?
If this is it the reason your running rich its because if the vacuum line is clogged the sensor sees low vacuum. Low vacuum would mean heavy accel or even wot.
This sensor is connected to manifold vac. makes sense right?

jpsec you have drag 3?
what is your fuel pressure set at? do you have a fuel guage? b&m makes one and they are handy, easy to install, look cool and are cheap.
what regulator and intake and secondary pumps are you running.
b&M modifier does not agree with an oversize pump btw.
