Default CF hood differences for ref.

I've had a few brands. figure i'd post a few photos for visual.

I've owned Fiber Images 1st gen, 2nd gen, VIS and now an Imoto. So far from what i've had the order is from worse to best. VIS, 1g FI, 2g FI, Imoto. Fitment goes to Imoto hands down. Even has factory rubber front filler piece. Here are a couple underbody shots of frame work. First is 1g FI, then 2g FI and then Imoto. Sorry..no VIS shots. didn't have it long enough.

still looking through files for framework of 1g FI sadly..thought i had it readily available.

2g

Imoto

this is a very old unclearcoated hood

At one time they were really expensive. Now i'm not even sure if they still make it. They were one of the first out there. Its pretty much as close to the Spoon weave your gonna get

so you didnt get my Fiber Images 2 g hood?
that is what I had on there, pretty nice but fitment was a bit strange along the fenders... the hood had too much bend in it so it kind of made more of a gap then needed.

oh well.. good thread

its an imoto. Jonas was one of the first to have a CF hood in the area. He purchased this from i believe Ultima off their wall ...it was on display. thats why i didn't complain about terry leaving it on the 4dr in exchange for the one that owen had on it but i would have kept my 2g FI or this one since my FI already had about 3 coats of clear on it. all this one needs is some clearcoat and it'll be fine. Ryan...the only hood that other brands have had issues with is the DC hood. Even my FI 2g hood was slightly off but nothing like the first run off. Alot of times there are 3 issues. One the windshield side sits too hard on the rubber gasket at the cowl and it slightly bulges but you don't realize its contacting there unless you look from the windshield toward the engine bay. This also contributes to the fender to hood height issue. the other problem is hood to front bumper gap. I was unable to use a stock hood to bumper rubber piece on the FI hood. can't push the oem pins into the hood..they won't clip in place.

anyway.....i'll have more side photos soon.

The Vis was the worst? I've seen a Vis on an ITR and it fit awesome. Weird.

when was this VIS purchased ?

supposedly my friend said VIS can make a custom one with a spoon-like weave..

but i have to pay two moving violation tickets so i'm gonna be low on money

and i haven't even bothered to seriously pursue the carbon fiber hood.

.....I'm gonna have to disagree with the VIS comments.

I have no affiliation with them whatsoever, however:

I believe the hood you're rating is one of their older generation ones.

Their new ones have OEM fitment and quality. I'm very pleased with mine, and have seen them on EG's and DC2's alike. It's very and I posted pics a while back for comparison.

Sounds like Imoto is a quality hood too though.....

Nor i. i have no affiliation with any of them either. for some time i was pushing FI not only for their nice look but my friend was also affiliated. I'm just trying to give everyone a bit of experience i've had. i'm asking others to share photos and views of others. As i mentioned above...the VIS was from about a year and a half ago which is old by CF company standards these days. This Imoto hood i'm postings is from about 1998(purchased late 97-early 98). I think its lasting quite well.

I like my Factor X hood...

Fit is good on my car (just a little larger gap on one side...) but it fits like poo on other R's that it was on. The weave is flawless, and the finish is aight...Nothing a layer of clearcoat wouldn't fix tho (or an afternoon polishing and waxing it...car isn't garaged, so hood is exposed to all weather).

The weight makes up for the other flaws tho.
