Default and yet more electrical problems.....

I have a 95 gsr and when the car is cold my vtec won't kick in and my mph gauge goes wild!! this only happens if the car sits for awhile(overnight) and when I start up my car the gauge only goes to 25 and when I come to a complete stop the needle just falls to 0. Also my vtec doesn't kick in when my car is cold. The car is leaking oil from the cam seals, I have the parts just haven't put them on yet, and it was never doing this before until recently. Could it be an electrical problem? Like maybe faulty wires?

vtec wont work unless your car is at operating temp or if it is low on oil.

dont know about your speedo problems. check the cables?

im gonna start by saying you shouldnt be v-takking when your cars cold anyway, when your engines cold, the oil doesnt flow, and one of the requirements to engage vtec is enough oil pressure, i dont know the numbers but if its low, which may be caused by low oil, or from being cold, then it wont kick.

as for your speedo, isnt it suppost to fall to 0 when you come to a stop? im confused.

are oil leaks caused by electric? i would have to say no. if your mph gauge jumps, your cable might be loose, oh, and blah, its not a speedo, its a mph gauge! lol

get some brakleen or the stuff for electrical connectors "can't remember the name"
and spray off the clip connecting to your vss, once it's dry see if it still jumps around. As far as vtec goes listen to Blahblah718293 he's right on point.

You are correct about VTEC not working on a cold engine. Gen 3s do not have a speedometer cable.

OP: have your gauges been modified (faces or needles). It sounds like your speedometer is sticking. I could see the VSS not sending a proper signal, however, your speedometer is over reading when coming to a stop, which is most likely the gauge.

Actually yes the face is after market , it starts to work after the car is heated up and thats what is weird bout it.

Also the gauges do not light up only the needles do. The guy that sold the car to e said it needed some part, he gave it to me but I don't know where its goes. It has an off/on button, its square and has like a tail like thing that connects to something. Pics up soon

The installation of the after market faces could have bent the needles, which results in sticking when the temperature is cold.
