Wth is this thing?...
Was workin on cleanin up my friends engine bay and came across this lil piece, not sure what it does or where its supposed to be mounted, but there was a line goin to the intake mani and also one down to the charcol box, but then there is a third tube that was cut and it has a bolt shoved in it...any ideas?! Its a '94 LSvtec, with b16 head and itr intake mani if that helps.. thanks
Looks like an evap solenoid to me...and very ghetto rigged at that.
It idles high when you pull it off because you are leaking vacuum. Loop the lines and remove it all together.

is it a sensor of some type? it has a plug to it, so I don't know if I can just "bypass" it...engine light or throw a code maybe? I don't know what the hell it does...

That is definitely the EVAP purge control solenoid, although your buddy has it hooked up incorrectly. The nipple on the bottom goes to a vacuum source on the IM, the one toward the top pointing out goes to the charcoal canister, and the top should have a hat on it, and if you cannot find one, just plug it up. Basically, just move everything there over in a clockwise direction and its all set. Dont forget to hook this up correctly or you will fail emissions. HTH
