Worth it to repaint?
Hey all,
I was planning on getting my car repainted this spring when my jdm front is all on, the problem is that I live in wisconsin. The car already has a rust spot on the driver side rear panel right in front of the rear wheel well, and also has a few places that are starting to bubble.
What I want to know is, after getting it repainted, will the rust come back? Or will a good paint job get rid of the rust?
My car is not driven in winters anymore, and I don't plan on ever selling my car, it's pretty much going to be a project car from now on.
I just want to know if all this will be worth it, or if I'll have rust again in a couple of years down the road. Any input from people in winter climates or experienced paint/body shop people would be GREATLY appreciated
Thanks!

Bad new, those rusts spots actually need to be cut out and rewelded in with a new piece because the rust will continue to spread unless u get rid of it. Its just like cancer, wont disappear unless u kill every single cancer sell. With that said, even a brand new paint job wont get u anywhere, the paint will just cover over it unless they actually fix the rust spot...then you'll be ok. Worse comes to worse, ur whole rear quarter panel has to be replaced if they can't fix the job. Since there are rust sspots in those areas, u might want to check other places too cause rust can come out of nowhere. Hope this helps. Good luck to you
What??? You don't need to weld in new metal to fix rust, unless the rust is extremely deep or has gone through the panel.
Normally, it just needs to be ground off, down to unrusted steel, and then regular primer and paint will protect it.
Any competent body shop should be able to easily handle this as part of the prep-work.

Yeah, but if they grind it down, they're gonna have to bondo it back up to level it. I had a rust spot where my antenna used to be cuz sum A-hole ripped it out to steal it, and they just sanded it down, put a little bondo, and painted over it.
whether the rust will come back all depends on the prep/repair work. If the rust is severe, it will have to be cut out and new metal rewelded. I'm sure it's repairable, and if a good job is done, no rust should reappear.
