Is it worth it?
Ok, so i'm in a bit of a pickle...I'm looking into a trade with a guy for my car, but not sure if I wanna do it or not...here's the info about his car...
1996 Acura Integra GSR 2door 5 speed Clean title
-Bone Stock Motor (I think it has an aftermarket exhaust, ugly one, with like 2 outlets)
-Tan COMPLETE interior, minus radio
-130k miles
-Exterior is primered, almost ready for paint
-Has body kit, but comes with stock front and rear bumpers
-Side skirts from body kit were bondo'd on, and are cracking
-Has ugly z3 style fenders, fiberglass, both sides have cracks, one half way through
-spoiler was clean shaven
-no dents
-no broken glass
-Is on Non-op, fees are paid to get it registered
-Wont pass smog due to bad catalytic converter (or gutted cat)
-Needs clutch, battery, and radiator.
-Radiator was removed to sell to a friend that needed it since this guys GSR was just sitting anyways...(at least thats what he told me)
-He said it runs good, but the clutch slips if you give it gas over 40mph
-AC worked, but took awhile to get cold
-Rear windows are slightly tinted, not 5%, but they are tinted
-Interior looks really good, just a little dirty
-Comes on donuts I believe
Now I'm trading him for my car that I couldn't sell, even for $2000....

nope just straight trade. Actually he's giving me $400 on top as well. My car is an '82 toyota starlet. I had it for sale, and couldnt even sell it for $2000..
I see the other guy is lookin to fix up an old school JDM car with the low offset look.
LOL..maybe.
Regarding your situation. It's up to you if you're willing to take on the task to pick up where he left off and fixing and investing into the integra to get it the way you want it to look/run. Just be sure to way out the pro's and cons so you can arrive at a rational decision. Just create some estimates on how much it may cost you if you were to own the Integra.
For some reason, I never liked the idea of straight trades unless you're positive that the car/motor is in decent shape. Because the last thing you want to be left with is a lemon.
It's up to you bro.
Goodluck

Yea, thanks. As the other guy said, I'm gonna do a compression test on the motor since I can't drive it due to the clutch/radiator problem. As stated he's giving me $400 on top to help with the repairs to get it running good, also he's towing it 2 hours from his place to mine, and he's doing it on his own with his own money. I think I can get the car painted for around $300 (going by what a local said he can do it for), but that doesnt include any body work. But I can sand and primer it, and let him just spray it and clear it. Also, I have a guy selling me a radiator for $30, and the clutch I can get for like $150, which I have done many clutches, and can do it without a problem. Also my buddy has a shop and he can recharge the AC for me for $30, so not worried about that. Everything else looks cherry with the car.
Also for those wondering, I don't work, I stay home and watch my daughter, so I'm pretty sure I have the time to do the work required. If anything, it's just gonna have a simple white paintjob, and the interior will eventually be swapped out. I wanted to do the 98+ conversion with just the front/rear type r lips, and the OEM sideskirts, which I should be picking up for $50 next week sometime. I want it to look somewhat like a type r, and maybe a jdm front in the future.

well it sounds like you have your heart set on investing money into the teg. If it makes ya happy, then by all means....
However, just to be ****
, it's not a type R rear lip. It's the OEM rear valence. It's part of the optional kit you could get for a 98-01 teg of any 2 door model. Asking for a type R rear lip may get you the good ol "deer lost in the headlights" look

I won't lie, this car sounds like a heap. If you're up to getting all that stuff done just to get it working, then by all means, it's your money. But to me, all that work and extra money to get a car that already has 130,000 miles seems like a waste of time, and this is no classic car that is hard to find.
For the condition it seems to be in, doesn't sound like it has had an easy life. But I guess a compression test will speak the troof

i wouldnt trade a car worth 2000 for a car worth 1000 at the most well i guess it might be worth it for the gsr but if the bodys shot part it out find a mint shell and do it up
Nothing's wrong with the body, I just have to sand some bondo where the sideskirts were. There isn't much bondo at all on (I've seen it), so it wont be too hard to do.
Yea, and I can do all that stuff. Clutch should be about $150 and should only take me a couple of hours...radiator is $30 from a friend of mine, and that should only take an hour maybe less, and then the battery, just gonna buy a new one for $80 with 7 year replacement warranty...so thats only $260, then just gotta transfer title, insure it, and get a set of wheels...
Oh, and then I found someone to possibly do a 3 stage paint job including prep work for around $1000, so might do that...or just finish prepping myself and then pay $300 for the base and clear. A friend of mine said he got his car painted at Maaco for $300, and it was a 3 stage...couldnt believe it, but I'm gonna see whats up with that. Also he said the paint has lasted...
anyways, bump 'cuz in 4 days the trade goes down..
Any advice/suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

I can get an obd2 cat for pretty cheap...prolly about $50, or I can have my buddy smog it and just throw on a cat for the smog real quick since he has his shop full of 'em, I'm sure...
As for the Starlet, it's been up on here for sale for awhile...
56k warning...lots of large pics...
