Default WORST PROBLEM AT THE WORST TIME!!!!!

so im drivin home from work and the car just dies.... pull over and try starting it back up and nope not happening... BROKE THE Fing timing belt, i can tell by the sound of it turning over that i have no compression. my question is...... do i buy a junk yard motor or do i rebuild it with new pistons and valve and what not? has anyone else rebuilt their engine with over 100K after breaking the timing belt? what did u replace just the pistons and valves? am i going to need new bearings, camshaft, valve springs etc.?

if i were you i would take the motor apart and check to see how damaged it got, then you might consider another motor

u might be able to find one for 1200 but I dont think its gonna be very easy. Why the hell did u not change your timing belt anyway? You chose to save $45 for a new timing belt, now its costing you.

why replace the engine if the timing belt went?? why not just replace the timing belt.. ?? no compression because cams arent moving thus open valves. the the block turn over? sound fine? if so just replace the belt.

or am i answering the wrong question? lmao!

bought the car a year ago at 64,000 now i have a 110,634 on it. i was going to change it at 100,000 but my girl bought a 00 mazda protege mp3 and i had to put an engine in it and alot of other work so it took all of my free time for about a 2months (only have 3 hours a week lift privealage) but since i put so many miles on my car i just let it go by, hopeing i could make it till the end of the month.

Please tell me your joking me!
Have you ever heard of an interference motor?
Do you know what piston to valve clash is?
Are you aware that when a timing belt goes south the cams and crank don't spin in sync, thus causing piston to valve contact.
If the op is lucky he might have just bent a few valves, thats the best case scenario. But most likely when you take the head off you're going to see pieces of valve stuck on the head and pistons. 99% sure that motor is hopeless. I would take the head off and inspect asap.

dang. how many miles were on your belt? If you're only spending $1200, I would suggest rebuilding your engine. You might need a couple new pistons and a little bit of head work, but it's not going to cost more than $1200 for that. at least I wouldn't think!

I broke my timing belt the same way, and never had any additional damage. Make sure you check it out before wasting money you dont need to.

yeah maybe a leakdown test, even though its cold it should tell you somthing. if thats not conclusive, pull the head, now i dont know if you would HEAR some valve to piston loving, thank god its never happened to me, but i would imagine youd know.

still, pull the head, gsr valves are like 20-30 a peice. and you dont need a lift for a timing belt or head work. just a jackstand.

especially if you can do the labor yourself... a timing belt is like 30 bucks.

SO LUCKY! my buddie had his go out in his 95 gsr about a year ago, he had replace valves and pistons. i convinced him to spend the money on springs and retainers while he was at it. (skunk2). along with the higher comp cp pistons and skunk2 forged valves. he's so much happier haha. glad you were most fortunate!
