Default What is this part called ?

And is it ok to take it off ? I want to, so I can try and get a vice grip on there or take it to my mechanic to get that damn rotor screw out !

The distributor base. Yes you can remove it, but i would recommend scoring or punching a reference mark so that you can install it in the same orientation it came out - that way you won't have to fiddle with a timing light.

you mean the parts inside ? I can just unbolt it and bolt it back up ?

Don't touch any of the parts inside other than the coil or ignitor as they are the only internal components that are removable without special equipment. You don't want to screw up a $410 distributor base.

Just remove the 3 bolts holding the base to the cylinder head and separate the plug(s).

That I don't. So it's safe to say that I can unbolt the base and give it to my mechanic so he can drill the stripped screw out, replace the rotor, and bolt it back up ?

Yes u can unblot it but the distributor base can be turned left to right a lil bit which changes ur timin thats y he said punch a refrence mark so u dont gotta keep playin with it till u get it right
