Go to http://www.howstuffworks.com/engine2.htm . This should answer a lot of your questions.
The block can actually be referred to as the whole Engine really. The head is the upper portion of your block, this part contains the Valves, valvsprings, cams, camgears, sparkplugs, and of course the head which is the where the intake and the exhaust cycles occur. When your hear about porting and polishing and valve jobs, they are reffering to the head. If your talking about a Shortblock, your only talking about the the lower half of the engine, which are the Clyinders, pistons, rods, crank etc. A long block is the complete engine. Where as a short block is only the lower part. Hope that helps
actually u have the ls/vtec idea backwards, they use a b18c1(gsr head) on a b18b(ls) block, another good site u could look at is http://www.vtec.net/hp/hpfaq.htm there is alot of useful stuff here if u can find the time to read it all, later
I am not flaming you, but the Search function has been re-done lately and I would hate to see Dustins time wasted. There is TONS of info archived here, please take some time to read.
