Not sure what this goes to but when I bought my DA last march I noticed it and havent found any listing of what it is used for, I have a 90 GS btw.

really even tho my car is ODB0? I can turn the key to on and watch the ecu blink for engine codes without the pin method

The pre-'92 DA does NOT use the Service Check connector for reading ECU error codes.

The pre-'92 DA uses the Service Check Connector only for locking ignition-timing down to base before setting distributor position.

Get WHAT? You don't need anything for reading codes on your car.

You need part number 525881/72377

Simply unfold the device and insert it into the service connector. Start the car and set the base ignition timing using a timing light

Tegger, I was obviously talking about using it for timing not for reading the codes I already said I knew about counting the light flashes...

I was talking only about shorting the Service Check connector, regardless of any reason why you'd do that.

You do not need any special tool to short the connector, even though one is available. All you need is a paper clip.
