Lately the engine light comes on...when it does, when I try to accelerate, my car just boggles down like it doesn't want to go any faster & my transmission (auto) won't change gears.

I tried to get a CEL code but it doesn't blink and just stays on What could it be? Timing? When it doesn't come on, it runs fine.

 

the same thing was happening to my friend with his 1990 honda civic si and it was his distributor the whole colum not just the cap. This may be the problem. When u go to take off does the car feel likes it wants to stall? you can try this it is probaly the problem

It doesn't really stall but it boggles down...like the car trying to go 60mph on 2nd gear or something. I'll check out the distributor and see what's up! Thx.

 

Ok I found out the problem.

I looked at the distributor cap & the contacts had carbon deposits...I cleaned it off with a light sandpaper and OMG my car would not start for few minutes.

Then BAM, it started & everything seems to be running fine now. The idle is stable from the beginning and no CEL lights come up even if I turn the engine off right away & back on few times.

Also found out my battery was going out...damn 4 years
