Weird distributor problems... need some help
Hello,
I'm just kinda lost in trying to fix my car. In the last few months I've replaced the distributor three times, the starter, MFI, and fuel pump (preventative, mostly) trying to fix the start up issues.
Yesterday I removed my old distributor to put on a new one (bearing on the old was going bad) and when I put on the new one it did not work, and when I replaced the old one it does not work either. The old and new are both in the correct key/rotor orientation of when the car was working, and the distributor will only go in one way....
The symptoms are that the car will barely even crank... I have the right orientation of the spark plugs (bottom left = 1, top left = 3, bottom right = 2, top right = 4). My problems before the car would crank at least remotely strong and just not start, but now it barely cranks. I sort of wonder if the starter went bad in some way, but I wouldn't think that replacing the distributor would have caused that problem when the car started fine with no issues whatsoever for the last month.
Does anyone have any idea why removing the distributor could have caused the car to stop working? I re-installed it per the integra GSR service manual that I have and exactly how I had before when it worked. I checked that the key on both distributors and the rotor was in the right position... I don't know what's wrong. Is it possible that there is a short somewhere in my engine harness that is causing distributors to fry? I find it hard to believe that I've had this many lemons or that my distributor with a bad bearing would just go bad randomly.
Just kind of frustrating I guess. Thanks for any help

Wow, replaced the distributor three times in the last couple of months. Are you sure they were bad? You can bring the to either autozone or I think Shucks as well to test them. Hm, Make sure all negatives are connected. And I would check the battery just because.
i don't think its ur distributor problem..or else u didnt even plug the harness together when u put it on...if u did. most likely other is fuel problem somewhere...don't really understand ur problem from what ur saying
Yes, I'm sure that my one distributor went bad because I had Tuffy test one and the coil was not working. And yes, I'm sure everything is plugged in...
The last two distributors (my old one and the replacement for the one that went bad under warranty) I have not tested, but both should be in working order. It's just such a strange sequence that simply replacing a distributor would cause something else in the system to go bad... I dunno. I still wonder if it is a short somewhere.
As to the rest of the fuel/ignition system, the main fuel relay I replaced brand new as well as the fuel pump, so both of those should be good. All new spark plugs and denso spark plug wires as well. Battery is less than a year old (good charge still almost certain, though I will check). That leaves pretty much just the distributor and starter... I just need to figure out why stuff is either burning up or shorting out. I've polished every ground in the engine bay as well... I just don't know.
Thanks

wth..no point of polishing grounds to me. does your motor crank? if it does then its not your starter. starter problems are like this when you try to crank it you don't hear ****. just quiet.
Well I think I figured it out. Both distributor ICM's were in working order, so I still need to check the ECM part of it but I'm thinking it is the wires in the engine harness... joy.
