Default vtec when?

I have a 97 gsr and it seems like my vtec kicks in way to early. at what rpm should it come on? right now mine is kickin in at 4500rpm and that seems way to early.

what ecu? stock intake mani? that sounds right for a p72 with the stock intake mani, the iab's(secondary butterflies) open at 5600rpm but actual vtec should "kick in" at 4400-4500rpm on a stock gsr with a p72 ecu.

Normal. The torque curve of a B18C1 falls off right about 4000rpm, so the Honda engineers set VTEC at about 4400-4600rpm. B16s continue to make torque until about 5000rpm, which is why it's VTEC point was set higher in the rpms.
