Default Vtec Tone's

I have a 95 GS-R and I have always wondered why my GS-R doesn't sound like an SI or Type-R when VTEC engages. I thought it could have been the duel stage intake manifold, so I changed that to a skunk2 intake manifold and still not the same tone the Si and type-r makes when they engage VTEC. Someone told me its my pistons that are different, that I dont have the high profile dome that an Si or type-r has. Then a month later the same guy told me that its the head on my car, that the ports are different on my car than the Si and type-r. I know my VTEC engages at 4450 rpm's and I dont think if I were to move it to hit at 5700 rpms it would still not change the tone of my vtec. What can I do to make it sound like there's?
Skunk2 intake manifold
AEM cold air intake
DC 4-2-1 headers
Apexi N1 cat-back
MSD SCI ignition
Vortech Fuel Pressure Regulator
unorthodox pulleys

Duh! Just like GSRwBoost said, don't be a ***, bitch. Anyways, ITR's don't have dual stage manifolds, just one. The GS-R that you drive has a dual stage manifold, which you disable w/ the installation of your Skunk2 IM. I don't know if it's just me, but you are stupid, thanks!

listen im not going to lower my self to your level of thinking and start calling people stupid just because I asked a question and you couldn't answer it. By the way I know about the damn manifold that is one of the first things I did to my car thinking that would change the tones, but it didn't. So im tired of people of telling me its your secondary butterfly that is not letting you sound like them, when i dont have the stock manifold any more. And I do let people know I have a Skunk2 manifold and the first thing they always tell me its the manifold. But thanks for trying to be mature people with me.

You're taking the quips too personal, chief. Cut a hole in your CAI and make it a short ram if you want quality noise from the engine bay.

i'm sure its either the head design of the SI and ITR as the head designs are very similar...the ITR is slightly different since they port and polish it a bit at the factory, but essentially the same head...i cant see a .5 increase in compression ratio making a difference in the sound because i know that the cars sound different.....but, i like the way my GSR sounds way more than any Civic Si i've ever heard.

Have you considered that the different noise is from the different camshafts?
Most of the V-tec "tone" is caused by valve overlap.

the 4400 vtec x-over for the GSR is tuned for more linear power. you won't notice the transition as much as on the other cars. if you use a vtec controller to up it to 5700 RPM like the si and ITR you'll probably get what you're trying to accomplish.

As Punk noted, both the Si and esp the ITR cams have more duration, overlap, and more lift than the GSR cams, and this is probably the biggest contributing factor to the VTEC "honk."

It's funny because my heavilly modded GSR wasn't even as loud as my buddy's Civic Si with just an AEM CAI, lol. Course, my GSR was MUCH faster, and to the DFH mindset, that's what matters

the cams might have something to do with it....but even a GSR and Si sharing the same cams the Si would still be significantly louder, i only this cause of a couple guys i know running ITR cams in their motors....i havent heard them back to back, but both have I/H/E that are comparable and the Si is still louder in VTEC....
