vtec sputtering 2nd gear....
Ok so I have a 2001 gsr mild all motor build. Recently I had a new clutch and flywheel installed. 2 days after I wanted to see how the clutch grabbed so i wrapped out first no problem, then 2nd gear and on the car sputters from 5-6500k sounding like vtec is turning on and off. Any suggestions. I changed the wires and plugs already. Maybe the distributor is causing this? Also I took off my smsp header which my car was tuned on and put an oem cat on also just for the winter. I was wondering if i could have a clogged cat aslo?

check your vtec pressure sensor... un-clip it and clean it out... plug it back in and give her a try

and ur sure its not oil level??? might be a faulty solenoid... although im pretty sure the CEL would go on cuz of that... did u try engaging in another gear?

I had a problem similar to this. This is what fixed it....
One it was the vtec pressure switch or sensor, whatever it is. I figured out that I had to ground that wire, re-chip it and take it out. Fixed the problem.

bro, if you havent changed the oil, i'd definitly recomend doing it. And also, take off your vtec cyl. and make sure that little screen is clean.. no cystalization or clogs in it.

Does anybody know where this switch or sensor is?

good luck with this man, I have the same exact problem, NO CEL, I got new spark plugs and wires, new dizzy, new vtec selonoid and and vtec pressure cyl. and the car has new oil...1st gear doesnt sputter but 2nd and 3rd do when vtec is trying to engage....I've been cracking my head to see what the problem is.
oh yea try unpluging the vttec selonoid and run the car to make sure it doesn't sputter without vtec, if it doesn't sputter without vtec we have the same exact problem (which I can't figure out)
