who has a link or a detailed explanation of how vtec works. my haynes manual doesnt go into it very well. im having difficulties understanding why in 1st and 2nd gears vtec engages at 4900rpms and 4400 in all the other gears. thanks for you input.

(edit) and as for 4900 rather than 4400, it may be that revs go up so much faster in those gears, it may just seem like 4900

 

If this is a GSR, you may be hearing the IAB's opening and then VTEC engaging...the different functions may be more or less audible depending on the gear....
