Default VTEC Kick In?!

Hey, I was thinking of going to a local tuning shop and see if they could maybe change the butterflys opening time to earlier...maybe before the vtec kicks it. Anyone have any thoughts?

thanks
Jordan

if you have insects in your engine you have more serrious things to worry about...try RAID.

but serriously what are you talking about?

I am talking about the butterly valves on the intake manifold that open up at 5800 rpm..i would like to change the time to before the vtec kicks it. I think it would make it better but idk...

learn the engine, then speak. i dont really understand everything myself but i figure if it was efficent to open the butterflies sooner, they would come that way.

i thought if you started getting more air in there before vtec kicked it would be way better boost...

no. Honda designed vtec to engage exactly when it does because if u open it to soon u actually lose power. It will be perfectly fine with boost exactly where it engages now. good luck

When vtec engages the vtec lobes on the cam forces more air in and out of the cylinder. having the throtle plate (or butterflies as Blahblah says) fully open up prior to engaging vtec wouldn't be beneficial because the cylinders will not "need" that extra air. Just like therese is no point in upgrading your intake manifold with stock cams...

but don't listen to me cause blah blah says i need to learn about the engine

yep, i was going to say that but i wasnt sure on all the facts and i didnt want to sound like a newb if i was wrong. anyway, i thuaght you were joking about the butterflies, h-t's been newby like that lately.

actually i just read this yesterday and it may help a little

http://www.team-integra.net/se...D=246

but again, it is the way it is to keep a flat torque curve, said in the article.

The "butterfly valve" your talking about is actually in the throttle body and it opens as you apply the accelerator. There are no butterfly valves in the intake manifold!!!!!!!!

their ARE butterflies in the intake manifold and if you remove them then or open them earlier you will lose power unless you tune.
i had put a skunk2 manifold on my gsr and when i drove it lost power till the computer "thinks" the butterflies are open.
adjusted that with tuning and now i'm very happy
on the underside of the int mani their is a vacuum box with a sensor that controls the butterflies. as far as adjusting it i wouldn't know

thats what my first post was trying to point out
what people always refer to as butterfly is actually the throttle body or the throttle body plate to be more exact. and yes it is seperate from the manifold.

to the original poster. something you could consider is a vtec controler that will set vtec to hit sooner if you want that power before 5800 as you said. also to consider down the line is a intake manifold and bigger throttle body (type R), but all that is pointless with stock cams. bigger cams are thirsty for more air...so give them more air with the new manifold.

ok. So it wouldnt be good to have it tuned to open earlier. Or maybe at 5000 instead of 5800. Like a little earlier....

if you want to mod something, start by exhaust and your intake. then make up your mind if your going n/a or force induction. and search!

leave it alone, honda engines are precise tuned machines.
likes stated before it was benificial to open early those crazy japonese enginers would have tought of it.

thats my 2 cents

im pretty sure championship meant n/a or boost

haha yeah. boost!

to the OP, make up your mind if your going TURBO or N/A 'as stated above, its naturaly aspirated. which means nothing forced/crammed in the engine. alot will suggest turbo since its cheaper and will get you closer to high numbers on dyno with half the money....

anything you want to know will be on the top right corner. HENCE the search!

DO NOT buy an e-bay turbo, i heard bad reviews.

just go with a header, cold-air...for now, if you want to go n/a you can go with camshafts. and pistons. and tranny etc.

search man, search!

anything you want to know is on the search option!
