5k...6k...?
You are all mistaken... Secondaries(Intake Air Bypass) are opened at exactly 5750 rpm.
And to answer the creator's question. Most people can hear vtec kick at 4400, but it isnt very noticeable without an intake or an exhaust. The IAB is much more noticeable.

Mine open at 4800rpm. Get a V-AFC and mix it up a little. Oh yeah turbocharge it first, V-AFC are nothing unless you have Force Induction or a good built N/A.

No.. Its not a mystery at all, here is how it works for a stock b18c1...
idle-4399rpm: the car is running on the two small lobes of each camshaft...
4400-5750rpm: the vtec solenoid opens allowing oil pressure to travel through the rocker shafts, then through the rocker arms... forcing the two lower arms to pin together in to one solid block that includes the vtec(middle/bigger) arm on the camshafts... this has a distinct sound (tick-bwwwaaahhhhhh)
5750-redline: The ecu cuts the ground circuit to the solenoid that keeps vaccum suction holding the Intake Air Bypass valves closed, causing them to open... allowing a shorter path for the air from the throttle body to the head.
Fairly simple if you have an advanced mind... but also simple to any mind with the ability to learn.
One thing that I have never researched though... when you hit redline and the ecu "cuts the fuel" for short intervals, is it pausing the injector pulses... or is it holding back the spark and not actually cutting fuel (lean?)...
Post it up whoever knows!!! Thanks!
